About this deal
Two-thirds of a large cucumber made the juicer wobble a little, but it was sturdy enough to take it. While we haven't tested any models with this attachment, in theory it will produce a thicker, smoothie-like drink. But since the juicing speed is lower here than with most other juicers, the amount of foam is negligible. This feels less like the construction kit approach, where one piece in the wrong place could result in a machine that won’t work.

Our powerful centrifugal juicers bring out the best, even from the toughest ingredients like apples, whole beets or bunches of carrots. With honey added, the drink was inoffensive but not particularly pleasant – it would have benefitted from including fruit. Compared to a centrifugal juicer, a slow juicer squeezes more concentrated juice with more fiber and the juice yield is higher with a slow juicer.g. banana, mango, sugar cane, avocado, pumpkin) cannot be juiced, for this purpose use a blender instead. Next, I made the ‘Pure Citrus’ juice using grapefruit, orange, mandarin and lime – with the fibre juice filter in place.

Inside the juicing unit, a rotating screw shreds the fruit and vegetables, ejecting the pulp into the container below.litres, the pulp container isn’t the biggest on the market, but it’s plenty big enough, with Philips claiming you can juice up to 3 litres before having to empty it. No cleaning brush is provided, but that hardly feels necessary here, since the filter attached to the squeezing chamber can be easily cleaned with running water.

A fully integrated drip stop allows you to stop between juicing sessions and keep your kitchen worktop clean at all times. Centrifugal models juice faster, and the best ones have a wide chute to fit in whole pieces and cut down on prep time. Leaves and greens full of fibre are also great ingredients for healthy juices and they can all be processed in this juicer. The latter can also be used to prepare nut milk and to juice softer and starchier fruits such as mangoes and bananas, which aren’t suitable for the HR1889 Viva. Thanks to the innovative juice extraction system with upside down sieve, the juicer squeezes every drop of your fruits and vegetables, creating a juice fountain. The Viva HR1889 also comes with a colourful recipe booklet and instructions on finding and using the Philips Healthy Drinks app – a neat touch. The juicer’s shape is reminiscent of a large curvy bottle, further helped by the fact that most of its removable juicing parts are made of transparent plastic.
