About this deal

Although in the beginning the author does say that you don't need to be a man to succeed in the business world, most examples are "have you ever seen a man do/say . I also loved that Frankel recommends a plethora of other resources and career coaching books throughout. And to me that reads as: if you want to be successful, you have to put aside all your femininity, all your qualities that you're proud of and act like a man.

This BS that is mascaraed as coaching is nothing more than an attempt to push women shift their behavior because men aren’t willing to shift their own. Imagine two job candidates: one who projects their voice throughout the interview and another who sits there shyly and is hard to hear. Pregnancy and very much women-related topics: I actually liked her approach on topics like how to handle announcing your pregnancy, I didn't think about it before and I am not sure if there is much help out there for expecting moms (and dads). For example, say you are at a bar chatting up a cute guy when he reveals that he’s a hiring manager of a company you plan to apply to.

For years, I have been trying to avoid the politics because I thought I was above it, and I thought it was the "right" thing to do.Frankel, you can begin changing your behavior in the workplace to ensure that you are respected, listened to, and taken seriously. This book clearly give specific examples how to overcome various obstacles from "apologizing too much" to "not dressing the part". These men began employment at the same time as Susan, yet they were the ones getting promoted, not Susan. Each of these questions relates to one of seven categories: 1) how you act 2) think 3) work 4) play 5) look 6) sound 7) market. Qualifiers are comments like, “Maybe itwould be better if…” Their sole purpose is to simply soften and weaken the message.

This book will help women to become aware of when and how they are damaging their careers and it will give them the advice and tips they need to help replace these self-defeating behaviours with more effective ones - and finally claim the corner office they so richly deserve. I need to let my confidence come across so that the people I am speaking with know I mean what I say and they'll stop questioning or undermining me.this was going well when talking about behaviours but at around point 100, she started talking about appearance. Women need to lose the notion that meetings are supposed to be valuable, interesting or worth their time. When they play within the narrow boundaries that society expects of them, they end up failing to look like independent self-starters. She is the author of several books, including Overcoming Your Strengths, which was named by Fast Company magazine as 'the best unsung business book of the year' in 1997. Therefore, the biggest mistake that women find themselves making when it comes to relationships is failing to seek out a sponsor.
