About this deal

The above-mentioned wind protection is part of Gore’s “Advanced Road Seat Insert”. Unwanted frontal compression is also alleviated by the cup.

The Rapha Men’s Technical Trousers are an ideal solution to this more-common-than-you-think problem, and thankfully look the business off the bike as well. Lycra may look a little unflattering and revealing, and feel like you’re wearing nothing at all, but it is superb at staying in place when exercising, no matter how much how move your arms and legs. The shorts you’ll wear when bike commuting aren’t very different from those you’d use for regular cycling, but certain features are useful for a commute. Short Styles & MaterialsThese are baggy cycling shorts in comparison to skin-tight Lycra shorts; many of them are actually fairly close-fitting so you don't look like you've just stepped out of the Wonderstuff circa 1988. A lightweight base layer paired with a breathable short-sleeved jersey accompanied by a pair of lightweight shorts forms the base of your summer outfit. Throw in warm-weather shoes, a cap, sunglasses and some sunscreen and you're good to go. Cycling is a great way of getting from A to B and improving your fitness, but it’s not always a pain-free experience. The most common complaint from new members of the commuter crew or those dabbling in exercise bike-based workouts concern the groin area – particularly chafing or, worse, saddle sores. But it doesn’t have to be this way. C ommuters who ride on road bikes will often wear tight-fitting clothes that complement the speed and efficiency of their bike. Lycra (aka Spandex or elastane) waist shorts or bib shorts are aerodynamic, lightweight, and breathable.

But both these things will definitely keep your feet much warmer and dryer than they otherwise would be. For the ultimate in protection, you could get a pair of dedicated winter shoes like the Northwave Extreme GTX, with Gore-Tex liners and ankle padding that includes a neoprene liner to keep water out. Next up, invest in a set of reliable, bright lights to ensure you're seen on the road. Buying USB lights allows you to charge them at work. While lights are essential throughout winter you might also want to invest in day running lights to use all year round on your commute. The only thing I would change about the jeans is the length. Being slightly shorter at 5’3, I would have preferred to have a shorter length option. And while I could turn-up the jeans, I was having to turn them up three times, which then altered their straight leg shape. If you are taller in height, I doubt you’d be able to fault these jeans.

I'm pretty much the target audience for this. I cycle nine miles each way nearly every work day, to a business casual office, and don't want to faff around changing trousers when I get to work. Good trousers for this are the Holy Grail of bikewear. Choose shorts by their waist size, though with bib shorts you also have to be wary of your height and the stretchability of the shoulder straps. Inseam or outseam sizes tell you how far down the legs the shorts are likely to reach. The included liner is constructed with dual-density foam. Nukeproof claims this offers comfort on rides lasting three to five hours. I can confirm this to be true, it’s perhaps on the thinner side of the chamois spectrum, but the cut proves to be comfortable even when walking into the café. It provides a decent level of cushion to protect the sit bones whilst on the saddle and stays dry all day.Extremely well made; the Velocio Ultralight Cycling Bib Shorts are perfect for commuting in a heatwave. Again, they include reflective details for night riding. 15. Columbia Men’s Silver Ridge Convertible Pants (best zip-off shorts) Pin The beauty of thermal shorts lies in their versatility. You can wear these POC Road Thermal Bib Shorts in low temperatures with a pair of thermal leg warmers. Or, use them as regular shorts during warmer spells. Endura's Hummvee II Chino shorts (pictured is the first iteration) are a more tailored take on the traditional baggy. But it's not just about appearances: with a detachable padded liner and great in-the-saddle comfort, these shorts are equally classy when it comes to performance. Waterproof overtrousers are worn over your normal pants to keep your legs and layer underneath as dry as possible when the heavens open. Fashion isn’t as much of a concern here; it’s more about functionality in this department. If style is your main concern, you can’t look past this ultra-soft Velocio Men’s Modal Tee. Its slim-fit design is as breathable as they come, it comes in three striking colours, and is made from modal, a textile which uses less land wand water than cotton.

They get a very useful durable water repellent coating. This allows the shorts to be used in damp conditions where they’re more than capable of protecting you from spray. They've held up without issue after a bunch of washes too." First off, the bag seems a lot bigger in person than it does in pictures. At 17 litres, there’s plenty of room for everything you need, and a laptop sleeve at the rear which fits my 15-inch Macbook. Anything bigger may fit, but could be a squeeze. He was heavily involved in the mountain bike boom of the late 1980s as a racer, team manager and race promoter, and that led to writing for Mountain Biking UK magazine shortly after its inception. He got the gig by phoning up the editor and telling him the magazine was rubbish and he could do better. Rather than telling him to get lost, MBUK editor Tym Manley called John’s bluff and the rest is history. My current favorites are Pearl Izumi Versa, and Patagonia Quandary. The latter is a bit heavy and overly hot when temperature exceeds about 5 °C / 41 °F. I also have trousers from Prana and Outdoor Research that look the part and work well. Roadies: the trend of thermal bib shorts makes the bib-shorts-plus-leg-warmers combination more appealing in cold weather, and many companies offer water-deflecting options in both. While polyester and nylon are both specific types of material, a “polyamide” is a fabric group that nylon belongs to. A polyamide material used in bike shorts or other sportswear is likely to be nylon.
