About this deal

Finally, keep in mind that, in occasional cases, your package may be delayed by customs and subsequent charges may apply. World War II saw a drastic reduction in the range to the basic models and it was not until 1949 that a wider range of models was offered. In 1959 a special version, the B17 Competition Campagnolo was introduced with longer rails set closer together offering more back and forth adjustment in conjunction with a special seatpin from Campagnolo. And from the 1920s right through to the 1970s it was the saddle of choice for most serious riders across the world including pro riders from France, Netherlands and Italy who could have chosen a saddle made in their own country. A year later it was renamed the Flyweight Flyer and a Flyweight version of the Narrow was introduced.

But the Professional (introduced in 1963) and the Pro Select were based on the B17 Competition but with larger rivets. It’s the ideal bike saddle for all cycling adventures including commuting, gravel cycling, road cycling as well as touring and trekking use. From your local crag to the summit of Everest, at Tiso, you’ll find the climbing and mountaineering equipment you need. The main design of the Brooks badge embossed on the side flaps has just had three major changes though of course there have been many little detail modifications. This saddle was not a great success – some riders complained that it was not stiff enough laterally.

The leather is also a naturally breathable material and moulds to the unique shape of the rider for a more comfortable ride. In line with Brooks' current policy of looking through the back catalogue for items that might please the contemporary audience, the concept and design of the Imperial date from around 1890, making it possibly the first-ever cycle saddle manufactured with a large hole in the middle to relieve 'perineal pressure'. A comfortable saddle from day one, the B17 Softened is an ideal saddle for commuting, touring and general use with treated leather for a swift break in period. Cyclists who do not have mudguards on their bicycle, or who drive frequently through water, do tend to put a one-off application of Proofide (and leave it on) on the underside of leather to act as a water barrier from splashing. Note: We recommend using the Brooks Leather Saddle Care Kit (product code: 2322230) or the Brooks Proofide Single saddle grease (product code 531267) for regular care.

It’s not just about reaching your destination but appreciating the journey and wanting to do it time and time again. Primarily through riding, the leather will mould to the shape of your anatomy and become more flexible. Leather saddles mould to fit the rider’s shape and the polished leather has just the right amount of friction for the rider to sit on.These are supposed to be threaded through the perforations and used to tie the sides together to prevent 'spreading'.

This saddle is great for city cycling, long distance touring, gravel and bikepacking and road cycling. Whether you're just getting started or an experienced climber, whatever your adventure needs, we have the gear. The thick leather of the saddle molds to the rider over time, creating a personalized fit and overall improved comfort. The B17 saddle, intended for the touring and trekking cyclist, has been Brooks' best selling model for over a century.Natürlich tut der Hintern nach 8h im Sattel leicht weh, aber die hat man auch wenn man 8h auf einem Sofa sitzt. In the post-war years Brooks also marketed similar saddles under the Lycett, Wrights and Leatheries names – these were all cheaper quality saddles.
