Having said all that I wouldn't say no to reading more of the series so clearly the book did work for me despite my concerns.When Jenny’s body is found hanging in a playground five years later, questions emerge as to where she has been and how she make it to the playground. Like all the previous Killer Instinct novels, Joona Linna is back as the main character, although Kepler continues the trend of writing from multiple character points-of-view; some for a single chapter, others are major characters throughout the story. Crime thriller fans who enjoy a detailed, twisty tale can expect a treat when they reach for this title.

At first, it is unclear how these two play a role in the plot, until the police discover that Martin was present and witnessed Jenny Lind’s murder while out walking his dog. I’ve heard a lot of praise for this series over the past few years, and now, I can certainly see why. There were so many unspeakable horrors that went on, so be aware there are trigger warnings for rape, abuse, and violence. It reads like a crime saga really, and you need to let yourself get immersed in it, but it's well worth the effort.

I have to admit, The Mirror Man is the first novel by Lars Kepler that I’ve read, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. This could have been a 4 star, but I’m that person who knocks off stars due to bad representation of minorities. This is a mammoth crime novel and not a quick read, but it manage to maintain pace and tension well given its length.

While the books do embrace the trope of a single characters who is needed to solve every problem, Joona is not perfect. The book carefully balances the competing, and correct, ideas that Joona has been irreparably damaged by his work and that he is absolutely essential to saving peoples’ lives. Joona Linna is a protagonist like few others, with many of her personal struggles front and centre in the novel. The book opens with a scene that throws us headfirst into the story, with the abduction of a young woman, Jenny Lind.Am Ende wird zwar alles aufgelöst, aber ich fand es einfach zu viel, zu unrealistisch und unlogisch.
