The rewards I seek are internal, and if you have that mindset, you will find opportunities for growth everywhere” (Pg. 171) David Goggins on How He Became Unstoppable and Doing the Unthinkable | Impact Theory.” YouTube, 11 May 2021, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Swj8GIIivXs. This is not my goal, nor most people's goals. I question anyone who is this obsessed with badassery at the expense of everything else in life. Goggins, David. “Can’t Hurt Me: Master Your Mind and Defy the Odds.” Goodreads, https://www.goodreads.com/work/65082544-can-t-hurt-me-master-your-mind-and-defy-the-odds.

Overall there were two main lessons to take from Mr Goggins story. One is that if you really put your mind to a task you can achieve the impossible. The second is that there is nothing admirable about taking the path of highest resistance just for the sake of personal pride. Yes, Mr Goggins has achieved amazing things, but there are others who have achieved similar results in a more intelligent and healthy way. The stories and lessons in this raw, revealing, unflinching memoir offer the listener a blueprint they can use to climb from the bottom of the barrel into a whole new stratosphere that once seemed unattainable. Whether you feel off-course in life, are looking to maximize your potential or drain your soul to break through your so-called glass ceiling, this is the only book you will ever need.Strength comes in many forms. While David’s story not only shows us an incredible display of strength, it is also Herculean mental strength! That fortitude to do, to overcome, to be more than what others think you are capable of. That is the rarest and most powerful of strengths to train.

Just as in Bible, we have David, who slew Goliath with a swing and a few stones...here David slew many Goliath’s in his life, such as ignorance, awkwardness, obesity, weak mind, being a quitter, not being accountable, his stutter, abusive childhood, racism and flipped all these issues and used them as a springboard to launch him into greatness and become invincible.David Goggins hat eine der bemerkenswertesten und am meisten inspirierenden Geschichten zu bieten, die ich von einer einzelnen Person je gehört habe. In the last section of the book, David Goggins admits that he failed at first when he attempted to break the Guinness World Record for most pull-ups. But of course, he didn’t let this stop him. It pushed him even harder so that he could try again and beat the record once and for all. HURT 100 Results (100 Miles)". ultrarunning.com. Archived from the original on January 26, 2023 . He also talks about how he and his mother had to move to get away from his abusive father. Becoming a Navy SEAL (2001) has opened up more avenues for him and not one to rest on laurels, he also enrolled into US Air Force Tactical Air Control Party Traffic and also graduated from Army Ranger School (2004) with the distinction of enlisted “Top Honor Man”. He was also part of many international covert operations.

Build on small accomplishments to achieve big ones. Ignore friends and colleagues who tell you you can’t accomplish whatever goal you set out for yourself. It will always be up to you to find the lesson in every shitty situation and use it to become stronger, wiser, and better. No matter what comes down on your head, you must find a glimmer of light, remain positive, and never treat yourself as a victim. Especially if you intend to thrive in a harsh world where you have to work for everything that matters. I'm not talking about material things. I'm talking about self-respect, self-love, and self-mastery.” (pg 144)

I’d learned long ago that no matter what type of event or challenge I engage in, the only competition that ever matters is me against me.” David Goggins states that pain is a reward for him, because it’s a reminder that he’s accomplished something. Additionally, he talks about a metaphorical cookie jar. This is where he keeps his memories of victories as well as what it took to accomplish those victories. When he needs motivation, he takes a “cookie” out of the jar.

Can’t Hurt Me Challenge #1

I highly recommend getting both the physical and Audible version of the book because as David Goggins did with his first book, the Audible comes with podcast bites at the end of each chapter and those are golden. David Goggins had his mother feature in the recordings where there was a conversation at the end of one of the chapters and that was one of the most heartbreaking yet enlightening and inspiring conversations I’ve ever heard whilst listening to an Audible book. I hope it’s released on YouTube one day so it can reach a large audience as that conversation alone could help millions of people heal.
