About this deal

The training is often described as not only physically challenging, but also psychologically stressful. The biggest difference between the French Army and the French Foreign Legion is that the Legion accepts people from each country. Not only from France but also from all around the world.

White kepis were originally worn by legionnaires on their first guard duty. Today, young volunteers are allowed to wear the white kepi from the moment they complete a 4 weeks long training. It is solemnly presented to them during a special ceremony. Style: Safari hats have a more sophisticated look and are often worn for more formal occasions like weddings or outdoor events. Foreign legion hats have been a popular and timeless accessory for many years. They continue to be a favorite among fashion enthusiasts and outdoor enthusiasts alike. The foreign legion hat is an excellent choice whether you’re looking for style or practicality. Choosing materials: Look for hats made from durable materials like canvas or nylon, which can withstand the elements. The Kepi was the most common headgear in the French Army with its predecessor originally appearing during the 1830s, during the initial stages of the occupation of Algeria, as a lightweight cane-framed cloth undress caps called casquette d’Afrique. These were an alternative to the heavier, cloth-covered leather French Army shako.Main articles: Jean de Lattre de Tassigny, Marching Regiment of the Foreign Legion, and Raoul Magrin-Vernerey Free French Legionnaires assaulting an Axis strong point at the battle of Bir Hakeim, 1942. Choosing the right size for your foreign legion hat is crucial for both comfort and style. Here are some tips for finding the perfect fit: Measuring for the correct size

After the war the U.S. Army issued a series of kepi undress caps, characterised by their increasing smartness and decreasing practicality. The last model was issued in 1896. When the United States introduced a revised blue dress uniform in 1902, the kepi was discontinued in favour of a conventional visor cap with wide top and a steep visor. A: Once you’ve completed your four-month basic training, you are allowed to relax or leave your military base during your free time, and travel around France during weekends and holidays, if you are not on duty. The Second World War was approaching and many new volunteers joined the Foreign Legion in anticipation of the conflict. As a result of the influx of new recruits, the leadership of the Legion decided to create two new infantry regiments (11th and 12th REI), which became part of the 13th half-brigade of the Foreign Legion. In early 1940, some of these units took part in battles against the Germans near Verdun. After France surrendered, some Legion units, led by General Lattre de Tasigny, escaped to Africa. It is not widely known that Legion units, along with British forces, also participated in the defense of the Norwegian port of Narvik against German aggression. The armistice signed between France and Germany on June 22, 1940 put the Legion in a difficult position: remain loyal to the collaborationist government of General Petain in Vichy or join the “Free France” forces led by General De Gaulle on the Allied side.

For having rallied to the generals' putsch of April 1961, the 1st Foreign Parachute Regiment of the 10th Parachute Division was dissolved on 30 April 1961 at Zeralda. The 2° REP (Second Parachute Regiment) of the Foreign Legion is a highly specialized unit that is capable of acting as conventional infantry, “air cavalry,” and airborne troops. Its members are also trained to transform into paratrooper-commandos, a capability that sets them apart from other paratrooper units. This transformation began in 1963 under the leadership of Lieutenant Colonel Caillaud, a legendary Legion soldier and the first commander of the Second Legion Parachute Battalion (2° BEP), which later became a regiment. You must travel at your own expense to continental France, in Europe. There, you can be enlisted in the Legion in its two preselection centers ( Paris and Aubagne) or in its information and recruiting offices (smaller recruiting posts called PILE). These centers are usually open all year round and all day long, even on weekends and holidays. That means you can enlist in the Legion every day of the year. However, keep in mind that some smaller offices in smaller towns might be closed on holidays or at night. France was caught off guard by the popular uprising in Vietnam led by Ho Chi Minh. The war between the French colonial forces and the Vietcong liberation forces lasted for nine years, until 1954, and resulted in the loss of 11,000 men from the Legion. During this period, the Legion deployed large forces that it had to constantly reinforce. The Vietnam campaign involved the 1st REC (motorized infantry) with its amphibious groups, the 2nd, 3rd, and 5th REI, the 13th DBLE brigade, and the 1st and 2nd BEP (parachute regiments). However, all of this was not enough, and the eventual defeat began to become evident by the end of 1950. Nevertheless, the bloody war continued for another four years. In mid-March (April 13, 1954), the famous battle of Dien-Bien-Phu began, in which the Vietminh forces managed to lure the French forces into a trap and surround them. Fifty thousand Vietnamese surrounded the French and there was no escape for them. After 55 days of fierce fighting, in which the French forces were tactically and physically defeated, the French were forced to surrender on May 7, 1954. The military defeat at Dien-Bien-Phu marked the end of the French military presence in Indochina.

The French Foreign Legion has remained an important part of the French Army. Surviving three Republics, the Second French Empire and even two World Wars. The rise and fall of mass conscript armies, the dismantling of the French colonial empire and the loss of the Foreign Legion’s base, Algeria.

Although the Foreign Legion distinguished itself in a territory where it had served since the 1880s, it also suffered a heavy toll during this war. Constantly being deployed in operations, units of the Legion suffered particularly heavy losses in the climactic Battle of Dien Bien Phu, before the fortified valley finally fell on 7 May 1954. No fewer than 72,833 served in Indochina during the eight-year war. The Legion suffered the loss of 10,283 of its own men in combat: 309 officers, 1082 sous-officiers and 9092 legionnaires. Barkhane is made up, among others, of 5,100 French soldiers, drones, fighter planes and helicopters. With this operation, France provides operational support to the joint G5 Sahel force and to MINUSMA when threatened by serious and imminent danger.
