About this deal

Or perhaps you’re like me, and you weren’t quite old enough to see it in theaters, so instead, you watched the movie for the first time on VHS. For example, rather than explaining how the humans work and then how the dinosaurs work, the rulebook seems to jump between the two, so you have to read the entire booklet before you play either side. The instructions make what is actually quite a straightforward game, appear very complicated and we all know this can put a new player off a game very quickly. The objective for the humans is far more complex and intensive than the dinosaurs, as it would be if you were actual people stuck inside Jurassic Park.

designers Forrest-Pruzan Creative have put together a light easy-to-play family game that will certainly appeal to fans of the franchise. One player controls the T-Rex, Dilophosaurus, and Velociraptor, prowling through the jungle to attack the humans. This is an issue because going into the game, both sides already know most of the tricks the other might have up their sleeve, leaving little room for deceptive gameplay.

Like Forbidden Island and Pandemic, choosing the characters rather than letting it be random can make the game unfair as some characters are easier to play than others. Those circumstances are if a dinosaur moves into a space with a character in it and that character isn’t sneaking, if a dinosaur stands up from sneaking in a space with a character not sneaking, or a character stands up from sneaking in a space with a dinosaur that isn’t sneaking. This means both the dinosaur and human players always know where the other is heading, as you can guess this means fox-guarding can become a real issue.

Board Game by Ravensburger is a thrilling and action-packed game that will keep you on the edge of your seat. That’s because it’s Pandemic but with new elements that get revealed with certain events and decisions you make in one game carry over to the next game. The d6 is just used to determine whether or not certain actions succeed (for example, taking a 'sneak' movement or activating a location).

If you love Jurassic Park, it’s a fun little game to add to your collection, but this game is more for novelty than it is for hardcore gaming. In doing so, players just need to pay attention to the cliffs and fences that must be climbed between some sections. If your character needs to go to a specific space to complete your goal place your character token on that space.

The theme comes through very strongly, and it helps here that the game uses photos of the characters from the original movie. On Step Three of the NEXT round, the dinosaur will come out of Sneak by standing up on the it’s on OR on an adjacent tile. The start location is always only 4 moves away from the escape point, making it extremely difficult for the dinosaur player to stop humans from escaping in the end phase of the game. Meanwhile, the dinosaur player can look at the whole map so they know where everything is and plan accordingly. He is a board and video game enthusiast, an avid watcher of movies, a lover of sports, and a certified nerd. It’s a fun little game, but it takes much longer than the game says it will because of how much strategy the humans have to discuss and think about before enacting. The dinosaur player's choices often feel automatic, to the extent where we wondered whether it might be possible to fully 'automate' their actions to allow for solitaire and fully cooperative play. Unfortunately, we would almost rather delve into a game of Betrayal at House on the Hill with the traitor mechanic than play this game with a starting opposite team.
