About this deal

Her books, which form the Helping Children with Feelings series are used as key therapeutic tools by child professionals all over the UK and abroad.

The book also offers opportunities to rehearse other ways of functioning by trying out alternatives safely on paper. They can help promote a new clarity of thought as a first step towards positive action and bring seemingly huge, unmanageable and insoluble problems into a new perspective. Dr Margot Sunderland is Director of Education and Training at The Centre for Child Mental Health London, Senior Associate of the Royal College of Medicine and Child Psychotherapist with over thirty years’ experience of working with children and families. The Emotion Cards are 48 emotive and artistic images designed to help people to review their emotions and their relationships in a meaningful and often transformative way. The second edition of Draw on Your Emotions contains a new section that explains how to get the most out of combining the activities in the book with these cards to encourage meaningful conversations and take steps towards positive action. I have used this book and the printable work sheets in many settings as part of my counselling practice and I have found them to be very useful with individuals of all ages as it always the individual to problem solve their issue and escape their 'fog'. This manual contains a series of structured "easy to do" picture exercises to help people of all ages express, communicate and deal more effectively with their emotions in everyday life. Built around five key themes, each section contains a simple picture exercise with clear objectives, instructions and suggestions for development.

This beautiful resource is also a perfect supplement to Draw on Your Emotions, Margot Sunderland¹s bestselling book. She is a British Medical Association award winning author and has published over twenty books, which collectively have been translated into 18 languages and published in 24 countries. It offers opportunities to rehearse other ways of functioning by trying out alternatives safely on paper in exercises that can be adapted for any age range and ability. A very useful A 4 book for people working with children and young people with social/emotional problems. Dr Margot Sunderland is Director of Education and Training at The Centre for Child Mental Health London, Co-Director Trauma Informed Schools UK, Founding Director, Institute for Arts in Therapy and Education (academic partner of University of East London), and Child and Adult Psychotherapist with over thirty years experience. I would definitely recommend it to anyone working in a supporting role with children, young people and individuals.

However it became clear from the introduction that this book uses emotions cards which are mentioned in the descripton but nowhere to be seen. Also something that can be used as personal therapy to help you reflect on things in an interactive way. It helps to promote a new clarity of thought as a first step towards positive action and bring seemingly huge, unmanageble and insoluble problems into a new perspecitve. Margot is an acknowledged expert in her field and her passion to make such important understandings and ways of working with troubled children accessible to ordinary people - parents, teachers, support workers - is manifest in the old excellent editions. The cards are designed to capture the deeper truth of how people experience their life, offering poignant descriptions for what someone may be feeling. This book might be better for someone working with adults who have some pretty hefty issues in their past but even so, I find the activities encourage rumination and negativity. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.
