About this deal

You can buy sun cream in pharmacies, supermarkets and discount stores, with some of our tested options coming from Asda, Boots, Garnier, Nivea and Wilko. If you're using sun cream at the beach, apply plenty before swimming, and again when you leave the water. Reef-safe sun creams Plus, the SPF spray can even be used upside down (trust me, I tried) so you can ensure all those difficult to reach places are always covered. It’s no wonder that doctors, dermatologists and beauty editors alike will tell you that protecting your skin is of paramount importance. But sadly, not all sunscreens are created equal. As is often the case, it’s worth investing in a quality product that will do the job effectively and give you much-needed peace of mind whether you’re at the beach, park or just lounging in your garden. Sarah xoxo Good spf! Seems good so far! Nice size bottle with a good push button. Not too greasy, absorbs we’ll.

Yes! Ultrasun is Eco Pass Approved, and they’re the only suncare brand in the world to be accredited with this award. This means that their sunscreens are biodegradable and don’t cause harm to the environment, coral reef or aquatic life. Who this would be perfect for: Anyone looking for a daily SPF and is concerned about the signs of ageing.

Who is Ultrasun?

Physical/mineral products reflect visible light as well as UV, which can make the formulations opaque and leave a white residue on the skin. Some formulations use nanoparticles of titanium dioxide and zinc oxide – the minerals responsible for the residue. Nanoparticles are smaller, and as they scatter visible light – rather than reflect it – the sun creams are transparent. How to use sun cream It's common for sun creams to claim to be 'water resistant', but this doesn't mean that they're waterproof.

SPF is one of the best anti-ageing steps you can take, and it’s more effective the earlier you start as the majority of premature skin ageing comes from damaging UV rays. This is why I always start my day off with a hard-working sunscreen that I can wear under my makeup and provide all-day protection. steevo62 Couldn't be without this I have used this moisturiser for a few years now and will continue to do so as I have sensitive skin and need an spf50. This works for me and does not irritate my skin. We award Which? Best Buy status to products that we've independently reviewed that meet all our tough criteria: they must pass independent lab tests for UVA and UVB sun protection, and be easy and pleasant to apply. It’s water-resistant as well, making it perfect for those who enjoy extreme water sports or surfing. Whatever outdoor activity you enjoy – from gardening to triathlons – the Ultrasun Sports Gel will keep you comfortably protected and will keep up with you and your active lifestyle.

If you’re in your twenties like me, ageing might not be your biggest concern right now. However, I know that my future self will thank me if I start thinking about skin-ageing now and doing what I can to protect against wrinkles and fine lines from appearing.

The industry guideline for water-resistant sun creams allows the SPF of a product to drop by 50% after a total of 40 minutes in water. Water-resistance testing also takes place in what is essentially a bath – using tap water. Babies less than six months old should be kept out of direct sunlight, according to the NHS, and the skin of young children should be protected from the sun when UV levels are high. The sun emits two types of ultraviolet radiation. UVA affects the skin’s elastin, leading to wrinkles and premature ageing (although it’s also linked to developing skin cancers). UVB is responsible for sunburn and can increase the risk of skin cancers, too. Certain sunscreens carry a UVA star rating from zero to five, which indicates how much UVA radiation they absorb, relative to UVB radiation. Don’t be alarmed if there isn’t a number on the bottle, though: the rating system was devised and is owned by Boots, so not all brands carry it.

Consider the time of day – If you're spending time in the sun without wearing sun cream, you should only do so before 11am or after 3pm, as the middle of the day is when you're at the greatest risk of getting burnt.
