I love classic mysteries--the closest modern equivalent is the cozy-- and especially enjoy those with a British setting so I had high hopes for this one. They have been portrayed as quite old even though age wise they are not so, but I did enjoy them and their cozy life.

This is, in my humble opinion, a very successful debut and definitely a series that I am looking forward to keeping up with.The ladies interest in piqued and, when they manage to sneak into the freezer, they find a crime scene, rather than the scene of an accident. Being with your partner may feel like rainbows and unicorns, but that doesn't mean you have a healthy, functioning relationship. There are some very funny moments (the suspended school ceiling being a particular highlight for me 🤣🤣) amongst a great and engaging plot with excellent characters throughout. While it's a bit of a cozy "feature" that the victim be unpleasant, I found most of the other characters to be either inept, silly, surly, or stupid. The police are convinced it’s an open-and-shut case of accidental death, which seems a bit odd given the scratches in the ice on the freezer door and the blood on the floor.
