As you’d expect from Bosch, this is a pretty sturdy scarifier – it comes with a 2-year warranty for peace of mind when buying. However, the grass collection box is a little flimsy. Despite the reasonably low price, you get a 38cm working width, and 14 quite tough steel blades. This scarifier does a great job aerating and clearing debris from your lawn. As it rakes up moss and fallen leaves, they go into a 55 litre collection bag – which is quite a good level of capacity for the price of this scarifier. The grass box on the Bosch ALR 900 does seem to be a little flimsy which is surprising for Bosch, having said that it does not seem to affect the performance in any way. I believe the collection box feels a little flimsy as it comes in two parts. Bosch have done this to reduce the storage space required for the collection box as it can be split into two sides when not in use.

Jet Collect’ system – This is innovative from Bosch, the drum has profiled air inlets that helps to not only make the collection of thatch, moss or leaves more effective but also the addition air flow pressure helps to compact the debris into the drum preventing clogging and increasing the amount collected. The overall quality of any product is important, but it’s especially important when you’re considering Garden Power Tools. You’re making an important investment in this product so you want to be sure that it’s going to be durable and serve its purpose for a decent length of time.

The Bosch ALR 900 is equipped with one 32cm drum with 10 double-wound metal tines that gives them two very effective benefits… The ‘Jet Collect’ system on the Bosch does seem to, perhaps, just make it the slight winner when it comes to collection of wet leaves on the lawn for example. The flow of air produced by this system seems to help prevent clogging of the collection box inlet and slightly improves compaction. Only 4 height settings. This is a shame as most of the Bosch’s competitors have at least 6 height settings. In my review of the Bosch ALR 900, I found that the 10 Double Steel Tines make it a great choice for removing dead grass and other debris from your lawn. The 50-litre collection box and folding handles also make for easy and compact storage. Motor power: The AVR 1100 has a more powerful motor at 1100 watts, while the ALR 900 has a 900-watt motor. This does not mean the ALR 900 is underpowered, but the AVR 1100 needs more power to cut deeper into the lawn. Moss typically grows in damp, shady areas and can pose a big problem for gardeners. This is because when left too long it forms dense mats which creep across your lawn, competing for valuable nutrients and moisture and hindering grass growth. Moss also prevents rainfall from reaching grass roots and can impede mowing with excessive build-up, jamming lawnmower blades.The purpose of a lawn rake is to free your lawn from moss, weeds, thatch and leaves, and I can honestly say that once you have used an electric lawn rake you will wonder how you ever managed without one.
