About this deal

a b c Flood, Alison (25 January 2017). "Jill Murphy: 'I just wanted to have a book on the shelf' ". The Guardian. Steinberg, Brian (31 August 2016). "Netflix Sets Tween Series 'Worst Witch,' 'Horse Mystery Project' For 2017". Variety . Retrieved 9 July 2018. Ethel later offers to help Mildred again in her hair predicament. She formulates a potion that she claims will restore Mildred's hair to its rightful length. Mildred applies the potion that night, and just when she is dropping off to sleep, her hair starts growing longer and longer by the minute, engulfing the whole school. Miss Hardbroom comes to investigate, states that Mildred is having "a bad hair day", manages to stop the hair growing and cuts it to its rightful length and vapourises the swathes of hair that had engulfed the whole school.

While the characters are animals the situations are entirely human and her stories are full of understanding and sympathy for parents as well as children. Neither judgmental not soppy they reflect reality as they revolve around easily recognisable situations. Father Bear’s search to find a quiet place to sleep in Peace at Last and Mrs Large’s need to find time for herself in Five Minutes’ Peace (1986) are both wonderfully sympathetic to some of the familiar and rather tougher parental situations. urn:oclc:650532552 Scandate 20110406024403 Scanner scribe6.shenzhen.archive.org Scanningcenter shenzhen Worldcat (source edition) When asked where her stories came from, she always said that she did not need to search for stories: everything she wrote about came from within her. That was truest in The Worst Witch, which she wrote while still at school and finished while still in her teens.

Books Multibuys

Jill Murphy was born in London in 1949. From a very early age she was drawing and writing stories, and was already putting books together (literally, with a stapler) by the time she was six. She went on to study at Chelsea, Croydon and Camberwell Schools of Art. Jill worked in a children's home for four years and as a nanny for a year, before becoming a freelance writer and illustrator. And here's a great interview with the author where she talks about a lot, including how she's had cancer twice now. She is such an inspiration.

In her words and especially in her comfortingly detailed yet stylish illustrations, Jill’s stories were full of humour, imagination and a sense of play. On the morning of departure, unable to bear the thought of a week without Tabby, Mildred sneaks down into the school kitchens, lets Ebony out of his cage, and instead hides Tabby inside.
