About this deal

Surprisingly easy to slip into, many will find these trainers as a go-to pair for everyday running, jogging, or even walking around the city. The fit was secure and snug without feeling too tight and the upper enabled decent ventilation, making it a breeze to use. That said, I found the sizing runs larger than usual. There was about an extra inch or two in the toe box that made it seem it’s going to cause a bit of trouble with every step.

The traction of this shoe is really good, and I liked that it kept my toes nice and warm in colder conditions. If you like a more minimally cushioned ride with more ground feel, this could be a good shoe for you.I actually think that’s a good thing. It’s great that most running shoes are very breathable, but when it’s freezing outside, so are my toes. So, I think it’s a good thing more winter shoes are being released. Next, it is a known fact that the Boost family is famous for its amazing stability as well as energy return and not forgetting responsiveness. With Pulseboost HD Winterized sitting lower to the ground, it allowed me to run peacefully without the fear of injuring my accident-prone ankles.

I wore the Adidas Pulseboost HD for a speed workout where I ran intervals. At first, the shoes fit well and seemed fast. The bottom, where your foot sits, is very flat. To me, it felt like there was no arch support. Your feet can actually slide in the shoes. At P5,500, the Adidas Pulseboost HD is at the lower end of the spectrum and that’s for a reason. The shoes aren’t necessarily groundbreaking and they are miles away from some of the best trainers Adidas has created. Not that it didn’t give me any boost at all but this one was more subtle in comparison. Its Continental Adaptive Traxion, a rubber outsole technology developed by—get this—artificial intelligence gives it powerful traction on hard surfaces like asphalt or concrete. I did have a bit of trouble on softer terrain around El Retiro where the impact on the slightly wet and squishy ground made it feel like I wasn’t as stable as I was on harder surfaces.

The Fit and Feel

It’s made of continental rubber with some firmer rubber on the lateral and medial side of the toes. There are some square holes in the outsole to provide flexibility, which seems to work since the flexibility is quite good, given the full rubber outsole. I think the shoes could last many miles. The tread looks extremely durable. The bottom of my pair only has 40 miles running on them, so it may be hard to tell how they will look after 400 miles.

But the good thing is that the longer I used the Pulseboost HD, the more comfortable it felt and the more apparent the cushioning was on the soles—hardly noticeable but adequate and ample. It delivers comfort even after long use—no pain or foot fatigue—and that’s something many recreational runners can rely on. Final verdict The Pulseboost HD Winter has a knit-like upper, but it is made of ballistic nylon, which keeps out most of the cold and some of the water and snow that comes with winter running. As we pulse towards the monsoon race season or for some of us the winter race season, the Three Stripes cannot have chosen a better period to launch its shiny new adidas Pulseboost HD Winterized. On the other hand, I do like the QR code that leads you to a Spotify playlist. I think that’s a nice little detail, but maybe they could have added that in some other way.

The Look

Surprisingly easy to slip into, many will find these trainers a go-to pair for everyday running, jogging, or even walking The Ballistic Nylonouter which doubles as a waterproof layer was also particularly useful for running during a drizzle and through random puddles on the ground. Judging by the unpredictable and fast moving rain clouds in Singapore during the monsoon season, these shoes would no doubt be useful even if you’re on a run and it starts pouring suddenly. Instead of pulling either side of the upper together over the tongue (like a regular lacing system), it is just pulling on the band, and it is making the fabric of the upper fold over on itself, which would create a hotspot. I’ve tried Adidas running shoes before, and Adidas is most famous for its Boost midsole material. I’ve tried both the Solar Boost and the Solar Drive before, which both have a Boost midsole.
