About this deal

I was touched by the reported testimonies of many "Big Names" who jumped to MJ's defense, telling the jury that the Arvizo's were gold diggers looking to have Michael foot the bill and even they thought something wasn't right with this family. Michael was an awesome artist, the King of Pop, and so more. Through his music, Michael spreads beauty, art, love, peace, prosperity, hope, kindness, bliss, and much more. I have never listened to an artist who can touch my heart and soul the way he did and still does. His music, words, and aura alone creates hope and inspiration. He was able create change by uniting human beings all over the world and still does through his music and legacy through simple by acts of peace and love.

The media didn't seem interested in anything that made MJ look innocent so much of what is in this book wasn't reported. But I was impressed with USA Today and the NY Times for reporting the truth, albeit very quietly. Bashir and Nancy Grace owe their carreers to MJ and this trial. It didn't seem to matter that they were sending an innocent man to the gallows, as long as the world knew their names the next day. They ought to be ashamed of themselves. A. He said, “You don’t trust me? We’re a family. Why are you doing this? Why are you not allowing Jordie to be with me?” And I said, “He is with you.” He said, “But my bedroom. Why not in my bedroom? We fall asleep, the kids have fun. Boys”— A. I was saying this. And Michael was trembling and saying, “We’re a family. Jordie is having fun. Why can’t he sleep in my bed? There’s nothing wrong. There’s nothing going on. Don’t you trust me?” A. What I said to Michael was, “This is not”—“This is not anything that I want. This is not right. Jordie should be able to do what he wants to do. He should be able to fall asleep where he wants to sleep.”I couldn’t believe that, first of all, these people were saying these things or — let alone that it was out there and people were thinking that kind of thing about me.”– Macauley Culkin testimony I would like to think as a society, we can accept people who are different; that as human beings, we are open to unique opportunities and experiences, and are willing to give them a chance. Without automatically pronouncing them de-ranged freaks. Without berading them. I'd like to think that, as whole human beings, we are able to look past the outer shell. To be open to different possibilities. And to put logic above idiocy.

It was very readable, as publications written by journalists are apt to be, and it was full of information. I always assume info written by jouranlists is going to be biased, even though we are supposed to count on them to just report the facts, I was intrigued by this one because Ms. Jones was one of the journalists who were hell-bent on crucifying MJ. Another reason I was a little hesitant to contribute to her fortune. Despite my clear admonitions, certain lawyers, none of whom were going to examine a single witness in the trial, reported her to Los Angeles authorities. As I expected, she then refused to testify, and it took the prosecutors weeks to convince her to take the stand in their case. Had she hung firm, she could have refused any testimony under the United States and California constitutions. This would have dealt a serious blow to our defense. Q. — in The Mirage. And who was in your room when you first got there? Who was staying in your room? Aphrodite Jones's career as a successful crime writer has established her in pop culture as a real-world sleuth, and we couldn't be more thrilled to have such a powerful talent join ID," said Henry Schleiff, president and general manager, Investigation Discovery. "Each episode of TRUE CRIME brings Aphrodite's fresh perspective and unique insight to these mysteries, and employs her exceptional ability to look closer at the details and make connections that may have been buried beneath the headlines." Most of these victims never disclose their victimization. Younger children may believe they did something “wrong” or “bad” and are afraid of getting into trouble. Older children may be more ashamed and embarrassed. Many victims not only do not disclose, but they strongly deny it happened when confronted. In one case several boys took the stand and testified concerning the high moral character of the accused molester. When the accused molester changed his plea to guilty, he admitted that the boys who testified for him were also victims.”– Kenneth Lanning, Former Supervisory Special Agent Federal Bureau of Investigation [6]

Other topics explored in TRUE CRIME WITH APHRODITE JONES include the Menendez Brothers, the O.J. Simpson trials, Chandra Levy's murder and the Phil Spector conviction. We also had very professional staffers and assistants. Investigators Jesus Castillo and Scott Ross were outstanding. We kept away from the media and never allowed the lure of stardom to interrupt our focused defense. This was a case where the potential for distraction was everywhere. I had watched lawyers in other cases get carried away with the camera and, in my opinion, they hurt their clients’ interests. Fortunately, that never happened with Ms. Yu, Mr. Sanger, or me. Everyone wants proof of his innocence. Well here is the proof: a very-well researched and documented book that utilizes the most basic reasoning to come to a conclusion. And, low and beyold, it is not one of guilt. The crisis-management objective was acquittal through reasonable doubt, and it was achieved. Restoring the iconic status of his name was never on the table.”– Eric Dezenhall, Dezenhall Resources. The book was littered with little moments like that. They were jarring and annoying from a journalist whose entire book was about bias. For more information, please visit investigationdiscovery.com I had trouble putting the book down - at least, it was very hard to do whenever I was forced to by other obligations. I received it in the mail on a Thursday and finished it that following Sunday night (this is FAST for me, given everything else I have on my plate). Some members of the jury, which acquitted "The King of Pop" of all 10 charges related to allegations that he molested a now-15-year-old boy, said they suspected... A. Well, there were approximately three bedrooms in that suite at the Mirage Hotel. Lily and I were staying in one bedroom, Jordie had another bedroom, and Michael had another bedroom. The second night, they were going to see a performance, Cirque du Soleil performance.A. Well, I think the performance started at 11:00, and I would say Jordan and Michael showed up around 11:30. An insightful book by the New York Times best-selling author and star of True Crime with Aphrodite Jones . A. Because it’s untrue, and they’re putting my name through the dirt. And I’m really, really, really not happy about it. If I have to criticize anything, I would mention the reported speech, which at times would have been successfully substituted by the real words. Furthermore, I found using names of Michael's songs for titles of the chapters essentially inappropriate. No fan really laughed when reading. http://pererro.blogspot.com/2007/06/aphrodite-jones-and-some-of-michael.html (retrieved 7th August 2009)
