About this deal

This third album signalled a change in sonic direction that played more explicitly on the darkness and tension that was always an undercurrent of their much loved debut Blue Lines and successor Protection. Even if you own the original version already, it's well worth picking up this special edition just for that alone. which are one of the most indispensable qualities of this album—Liz Frazer and Sara Jay—but that's not to discredit the other vocalists. Widely hailed as their masterpiece, and voted 15 in Q Magazine's 100 Greatest British Albums Ever (2000), 'Mezzanine' saw the band move away from the 'trip-hop' sound they had helped define to embrace rock and electronica.

Currently playing on my Thorens TD 160 with Nagaoka MP-110 feeding my Yamaha CA-800 which powers a pair of first generation Klipsch Heresy. A few backing vocals etc did seem clearer in the resulting mix, so an interesting, if not dramatic, change. ok, first off - I didn't use the following option, but it's AWESOME: the vendor had the consideration to provide a download to keep you patient while you wait for your shipment to arrive. Einstein forgets all about the Theory of Relativity and instead immediately looks at the Massive Attack Discography. To be sure, this album is very challenging material for the vinyl format; plenty of deep bass and also very crystalline highs, particularly on Elizabeth Frazer on "teardrop", but also on all the female vocalists featured on this album. Review: By the time they headed into the studio to record Protection, Massive Attack were still riding high on the success of their peerless debut album, Blue Lines. We are available to book for live shows and events, as well as bespoke licensed music for videos, commercials, TV, film and more.

All 8 of the Mad Professor remixes included here are previously unreleased and include his dub mixes of 2 tracks not originally featured on Mezzanine but from the same period; “Metal Banshee”, a dub version of ‘Superpredators’ which was a cover of Siouxie and the Banshee’s ‘Metal Postcard’, and “Wire”, a track they recorded for the soundtrack of the film Welcome to Sarajevo. Mezzanine" is a murky, dank, haunting, atmospheric, brooding (if Batman was a real person this would be on his playlist for sure! With Mezzanine, however, the party had ended; revisiting the murky soundscapes so favoured by former partner and fellow Bristolian Tricky, the comeback single "Rising Son" muttering edgily about "cheap beer filled with crocodile tears", over the deepest bass. The cds are black plastic, which initially worried me, but fortunately my old Technics CD player plays both fine.hell even the 20bit HDCD, with peak extension, might fair better than the vinyl pressings, at least in some regard, seeing how this album seems to be a "challenge" for the vinyl format, as one commenter noted.

As per the original release, the artwork is by Hingston studios who have worked with Robert Del Naja from the band. After numerous bootlegs over the years, Virgin have done the right thing and presented this official reissue of Mezzanine to appease fans of Massive Attack and it's clear the LP has lost none of it's bewitching power.

It's packed with highlights, from the spaced-out, dub-house rework of "Spying Glass" ("I Spy"), to the ricocheting percussion hits and twinkling pianos of "Weather Storm (Cool Monsoon)", and creepy, delay-laden string surges of "Eternal Feedback (Sly)". The Mad Professor remixes were originally intended to be released on a Mad Professor Mezzanine remix album – as the band had done with previous album Protection (No Protection) – yet in the end only a number of his remixes were issued as single B-sides. Some mechanical issues; Side "A" groove is slightly off center, not causing audible issues, but frustrating. Or if you don't like the term trip-hop—as nearly none of the associated artists seem to lol—it's at least a quintessential of 90s music in the general realm of hip-hop/electronic music. These remixes were originally intended to be released on a Mad Professor Mezzanine remix album – yet in the end, only a few of his remixes were issued as single b-sides. Can’t make my mind up if CD sounds better than the vinyl so it must be close, sounds great on either. While the resultant set, released in 1994, does quite hit the same dizzying heights, it remains a thoroughly great album.
