A reflecting telescope collects the light from celestial objects via a combination of specially curved mirrors and guides it into an eyepiece, where it is then further magnified. Unfortunately, it’s the lack of accessories (such as the lunar filter, decent eyepieces and finderscope) that let the FirstScope down and could result in the young astronomer becoming frustrated and losing interest. Useable straight out of the box, all you need to do is insert an eyepiece and you’re ready to start viewing.
