About this deal

Attaching all the branches can be a pain in the rear. I recommend starting from the top and working your way to the bottom, with the base pieces left off. Generally, you want to have the smaller branches toward the top and the larger branches toward the bottom. Dry fit the branches before you glue them on and find out which branches you want to go where, you should aim for a nicely shaped crown with the leaves and branches spread out evenly. Launched in 2019, the Contrast range revolutionised miniatures painting. Now, the new colours span the entire spectrum, from eye-searing emeralds and yellows, to fiery reds and bold blues. We’re really spoilt for choice! To give us a hand exploring the new range, we asked Warhammer TV painting presenter Emma Robinson to provide us with ideas for using some of the new colours. Glaze a highlight with the most appropriate colour. EG: on the dark legs, Emperor's Children . On the upper, mix Wraithbone into the Emperor's Children to build up highlights. Use almost pure Wraithbone on the face.

It’s an incredibly exciting time to be a Warhammer hobbyist – the Citadel Colour range is expanding with 25 vivid and versatile new Contrast paints, the Shade range has been reformulated with a further seven new colours added, and a brand new bright white spray primer is coming! It’s a chromatic Christmas, and it’s still summer! When it comes to Warhammer, you’ll most often find tentacles on models related to Nurgle, whether in Age of Sigmar or Warhammer 40,000, though Tyranids frequently sport them as well. Airbrush steps - 1) Basecoat with Screamer Pink . 2) Zenithal (top-down, but most of the model) Magenta 3) Zenithal (directly above) Emperor's Children 4) Under shade with Volupus Pink Emma: This paint has a lovely jade-like tone, which is really intense and vivid. I love using it over Stormhost Silver on gemstones or thinned down for a different take on crystal blades than the usual blue. Emma: Gutrippa Flesh is terrific and will save a lot of time when painting Kruleboyz or Gretchin as it gives an excellent base colour and shade that suits these boyz down to the ground. It’s really great for camo cloth too!

Step 3: Highlight

I’ve started painting these models in groups of two. I feel like this still lets me focus on each one without getting too worn out with a large group. You can base your model how you want. As you can see, I did a rather elaborate jungle base for mine, which I’ve covered over on Mengel Miniatures. Jeffery is a bit farther along in this photo. and you can see how the tentacle contrasts directly with the rest of him Aeldari Emerald is a colour unlike any in the current Contrast range, giving you a brand new choice for a whole range of effects. I love using them as base colours for large armies and glazing over layers on highly detailed miniatures for extra colour saturation. The expansion of the Contrast range with new colours gives hobbyists an amazing opportunity to try different things! Lizzie: This is a really fun, swampy green with a number of applications. Naturally, it’s great for giving those Mantis Warriors some time in the spotlight.

Emma: I’ve been painting for many years, and Contrast is one of the most fun and versatile paint ranges I’ve worked with. They are easy and fun to use, making armies faster than ever to paint. Citadel Colour’s Volupus Pink is an acrylic paint with a smooth matt finish. It contains a high concentration of pigments, providing excellent coverage with just a thin base coat. This colour works great as a foundation for highlighting lighter pinks, and the paint is easy to use even for beginners. It is a beautiful addition to any palette and ideal for miniature painting, especially for models that require a vibrant and eye-catching appearance. What armies to paint with Volupus Pink The sheer number of new additions to the range has totally spoiled us, and we can’t wait for you all to try them out! It’s amazing to see so many vibrant and punchy new colours, alongside some awesome subtle ones. The applications for these paints are endless. Follow my Green Flames Rev iii for the recipe for the flames. Always do last as you can apply some minor OSL. I wanted very pink Pink Horrors. This recipe uses an airbrush for zenithal highlights and basecoating for speed, but I am sure this could be achieved with a brush. This covers the painting of the whole model. SkinFollow up with a thin highlight of Temple Guard Blue . On the tongue, this is the chunky highlight. Stippling here looks quite effective. Tidy up anything on the skin as needed, but you can get away with a bit of sloppiness due to the organic nature of the model. I then highlighted the skin with pure Deepkin Flesh. Emma: Regally vibrant, Luxion Purple keeps a bright tone even in the darker areas of your miniatures – great for Hedonites of Slaanesh and the Emperor’s Children . This is my favourite purple Contrast of all time! An extra step would be to use the highlight colours to add striations over the muscles to really build the skin up. But, when painting 30 of these...

All of the gold areas were base coated with Dragon’s Gold by Two Thin Coats ( Retributor Armor GW), including the shields, even though they were primed with gold. This just makes sure everything is the same shade of gold. Because I had painted a burgundy carapace, I wanted the skin to contrast with it, and pull from colours that matched the pelagic influences on some of the new miniatures. I started with Celestra Grey , and glazed down with colours like Fenrisian Grey and The Fang , and shaded the darkest areas with Druchii Violet , to keep everything suitably menacing. Will: Custom Splinter Fleet For their carapaces I used Karandras Green and applied Doomfire Magenta to their fleshier parts, while claws were painted with Blood Angels Red and the visible brain-like parts had Frostheart applied to them. I went old school on the basing and used a layer of Armageddon Dust which was then painted over with Warboss Green , washed in Biel-Tan Green and drybrushed with Niblet Green. Charlie: Custom Splinter FleetRetributor Armour: Gold is a warm metallic color that pairs well with the cool tones of purple and pink. Retributor Armour is a high-quality metallic gold that can be used to highlight and add accents to miniatures painted with Volupus Pink. So there you have it, pro-tips from one of our pro-painters! That’s just 10 of the 25 new Contrast paints – we’ve already had ideas for coruscating bolts of energy with Mantis Warrior Green and some filthy underhive terrain with Garaghak’s Sewer. The possibilities are truly endless! I have had a great deal of fun experimenting with using various real-world colour schemes that can be found in nature for my Tyranids. I’ve so far attempted schemes based on the following:
