About this deal
HDR is the next big thing in video. Basically, it offers greater contrast and a wider range of colours. We’re starting to see it in films and TV shows, but now it’s coming to games. The first HDR games are Forza Horizon 3 , and Gears of War 4 . For a report on HDR gaming, hit the link below Xbox One S – Features
The Xbox One has had a total makeover, and it’s a huge improvement. Microsoft hasn’t confirmed what the “S” stands for, but we’re taking a guess at “slim”. The case is 40% smaller, which makes the Xbox One S only a little bigger than a PS4, and smaller than the dinkiest of mini-ITX PCs. So the games don’t perform noticeably better, and options are limited on HDR gaming. This means your gaming experience on the Xbox One S will be virtually indistinguishable from that on the Xbox One – except for ultra high-definition video output. There are two physical buttons in place of the capacitive touch buttons for power and eject on the face of the console, and the sync and USB 3.0 ports have been brought from the side of the unit to the lower half of the front face.
Game-changing gear
You want to take advantage of Xbox Game Pass: Xbox One S is honestly a perfect machine for Xbox Game Pass, especially for those with a more powerful primary platform such as PS5 or a PC. Microsoft’s service has a selection of excellent titles on it right now, and all of its first-party efforts will arrive on day one at no extra cost. If you don’t mind compromise in visuals and performance, this is the ideal way to try them out. Accessories: Excludes the Xbox One S stand that works exclusively with the Xbox One S. Xbox Kinect Adapter (sold separately) required for Kinect on Xbox One S and Xbox One X. The final feature worth mentioning here is Cortana, a feature that works similarly to Siri on iOS, tvOS and OSX, or Google Assistant on Android devices. Cortana can field commands like "Invite my friend Dave to a party" or "Pull up my achievements." Using Cortana is a more intuitive way of controlling and navigating Xbox One, and is a major step forward from the previous Kinect-only voice commands. The addition of a 2TB storage option is another welcome change. Any Xbox One owner will tell you that even a moderate game library demands plenty of space. And as such, I’d recommend serious gamers opt for the 2TB option over the smaller 500GB and 1TB configurations. At launch time, 2TB was the only option available, but now it’s a rarity.
Compatibility depends on device and operating system version. Experiences may vary. Go to Xbox Wireless Controller functionality for more information. The availability and sale of Xbox Series S is subject to required regulatory approval(s) in your jurisdiction. The HDMI output has been upgraded from 1.4a to 2.0. The HDMI 1.4 standard is technically capable of supporting 4K, but only at 30Hz. Films and TV shows shown at 30Hz will look choppy as hell and may give you a headache. HDMI 2.0 means the Xbox One S can output proper 4K at 60Hz. The only console designed to play the best games of the past, present, and future Play over 2,200 games including more than 200 exclusives and over 550 classics from Xbox 360 and Original Xbox. However, the real answer is: Don't buy either. Really. The next-gen Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S are here, and they have far more power than either of these consoles, with better loading speeds, faster processing, next-gen graphics features like ray tracing, and much, much more. Additionally, supplies of these consoles are short, and Microsoft has ceased manufacturing them entirely. The Xbox Series S replaces the Xbox One S, and the Xbox Series X replaces the Xbox One X. When it comes to size, Xbox One S is considerably smaller compared to the original one, around 40% reduced to be exact making Xbox One looked really chunky at 333mm x 276mm x 78mm. Another edge of One S is the fact that it comes with a built-in power supply. Access to Online Multiplayer: Xbox Live Gold (sold separately) required for online multiplayer on Xbox consoles.
As far as connections are concerned, the rear of the Xbox One S is almost identical to the Xbox One: HDMI out, HDMI in, two USB ports, IR out, optical audio out and Ethernet. As for power, the pad works on AA batteries. They last a good while, so I don’t mind them. Some people prefer the Sony PS4 controller’s built-in battery approach. It may be more environmentally friendly, but the battery has proved to be poor and I’m forever having to plug it in. I wish Microsoft would ship controllers with its “Play and Charge” kits – it would be a good compromise. While Microsoft has said that the chipset has remained exactly the same, it has swapped the standard Blu-ray disc drive for a 4K, HDR-capable one that can read Ultra HD Blu-rays, the next generation of physical media. The first is that the Xbox One controller will be Microsoft's first to natively support Bluetooth. That means should you want to use it as a controller for your PC you won't need a proprietary Xbox One USB receiver plugged in. In addition, Xbox One S has a controller with a pad featuring a new texture grip, extended range and , exchangeable colour covers and most notably you now use it wirelessly with a PC as it has a Bluetooth.

The Kinect port has gone. This isn’t a deal-breaker for me. It’s a move that also doesn’t surprise me, considering the number of people I know who use the Kinect (none). Those who want to use a Kinect will also be able to connect the peripheral via USB with an adapter. Microsoft is currently giving them away to existing Kinect owners.
