About this deal

Instead of getting not-yet-potty-trained kids to code with a screen and keyboard, this plastic caterpillar uses more subtle tactics: it teaches the basics of coding, like sequencing and programming, with segments of the caterpillar's body. Audio directions for what kids need to do feel a bit incomplete, so parents may need to help out, at least at first. Once this happens, the onboard computer can no longer detect any of the connected programming modules, thus Code-a-Pillar has no programming and does nothing.

The early levels are not explained fully or well, so parents may need to help kids plug through to get to higher levels, where the app starts to shine a bit brighter. And that techno electronica music soundtrack will be exciting and fun for some but annoying for others, so it's great that it can be turned off on the home screen. Although we’ve only used our Code-a-pillar for a few weeks I can imagine this coding toy can take a bit of a beating. There are two right turn, two left turn, three straight and one sound segment included, with two circular targets. It was amazing to see the two of them – with such a huge age gap – sit for over an hour together and play with this coding toy! It took a while to figure out the noises/soundtrack and to wait after pushing the button for him to start moving. Here’s a photo from the top looking down so you can get a better view of the coding commands on each section. The Code helps Caterpillar employees put our values and principles into action every day by providing detailed guidance on the behaviors and actions that support our values of Integrity, Excellence, Teamwork, Commitment and Sustainability. The toy moves based on how you plug in its modular segments, a step on the road towards understanding the concept of code.

Creating these simple routes provides opportunities for students to develop mini-programming concepts! It was nicely packed and messages were organised it was a newest piece of toy I received from all the bids I have done till now my baby boy will like it very much. I wasn’t able to fully remove the cover from the base because there are wires connecting the main device to the lights and the speaker on the underside of the cover. Definitely an AWESOME coding toy for kids of various ages and absolutely perfect for your younger ones. Critical Thinking: By programming different combinations to send Code-a-pillar Twist™ down various paths, preschoolers can try and try again, exercising those critical thinking skills!

Place the green and red target discs flat on the floor and see if you can arrange the Code-a-pillar’s coding to hit each disc! Code-A-Pillar is an easy-to-use toy designed for small children to help them play while learning special and pre-programming logic. Once the segments are connected and the start button is pressed, the Code-a-Pillar will take the programmed route specified by the young user, a similar concept to coding. Each segment of the Code-a-Pillar communicates an action to the “brain” of the creature — actions such as moving forward, turning right, or turning left. Below is our Instagram video so you can see a quick clip of how to detach, reattach, and use the Code-a-pillar!One straight (forward arrow) move segment will make the caterpillar travel forward one yard (approx 92cm).
