This book was acquired as a gift for my father and the little figurines we have cherished for over a decade. But having said that, the illustrations (also done by the author) are by far the best and most memorable thing about this book, and the reason it got 4 stars from me on Goodreads despite mostly being utter drivel. The connection of seeing and then writing what I see is a art form not often done or done well, but Cicely Mary Barker did it with absolute perfection!

It was also very fun, because I took turns reading the poems with my neice, who sometimes put them to her own tunes. Normally we see each fairy and their poem displayed on facing pages, so even though hte books are diminutive in size (fairies at scale! I bought this beautiful book as a gift for a friend's great-granddaughter who is 4 years old and still hoping to find her first fairy.
