I had the privilege of beta reading this earlier this summer and cannot wait for everyone else to fall in love with this book too!The world building was fantastic, and although the FMC tends to be difficult even when it is not beneficial for her in any way, The MMC is not without his stubbornness as well, over all throughly enjoyed the series and all the characters, Worth the read! The summary portrays the protagonist as a "defiant human" and she's even praised for her bravery by some characters. I don’t understand what some other reviewers are complaining about in regards to the main female role…maybe they got too use to being submissive over the last few years? With thorough editing I think I can see an interesting story here, but as it stands, I’m not sure I care to read the next book in the series.

The sexual tension between them is palpable, yet they resist each other due to the many secrets and lies between them.I sometimes want to smack to protagonist for being so difficult but I could also understand where she was coming from. A 5 stars book tends to have me raging about cliff hangers and stalking the author for release dates. I think this book could have been a few hundred pages longer and still ended at the same page if the author did more fleshing out of the story, worldbuilding, and character building.

Going to start the second one but before I do I will pray for the strength not to get offended or triggered by someone sticking up for themselves or god forbid, having a drop of tenacity. The story held my attention enough and the cliffhanger is there so I want to know what happens even though I'm not biting at the bit for it. The way the main character speaks is awkward and and some of her attempts at witty comebacks fall flat and made me cringe. I don't know where the exits are or how to get out of this realm and if someone finds me I'll be murdered on the spot.After starting the book, I read several reviews that echoed my thoughts – she's portrayed as dumb, childish, and annoying. It has everything I want in a fantasy…unique magic system, Fae, royalty, enemies to lovers, chosen one, oh…and a dark and broody love interest 😎 I am absolutely dying for book two. There was one scene where attraction between Reyna and Maz was described but it felt perfunctory and hollow.
