About this deal

They may be mellow listening, but there is something warm and comforting about Darren’s whispered tones, which have not changed a jot throughout his career, and are quite like nothing else in the melodic rock world. Other confirmed dates for 2020 were at the Cascais Rock Fest on 25 Jan (with Cutting Crew and The Stranglers), and at the Rock of Ages Festival, Germany 31 July – 2 August. The record will be the first release on Jason and Andrew's newly formed label Extreme Eating'and their first album since parting ways with Rough Trade Records.

The best thing about the album is that it is entirely comfortable not to be Avant Garde and instead concentrate on the sound that the band has always had.The song is a love letter to John's wife Nora, who sadly passed away from Alzheimer’s on Wednesday 5th April. Tonight’s show is something very special and even though there were a lot of memories and respects paid, it’s with great joy that we remember the ones we’ve lost, including the late great Phil Lynott. Although its been said elsewhere that the lyrics are repetitive singing about storms, mountains etc, being a nature lover i get where Darren is coming from.

But the most striking and impressive thing -at least, to me personally- is the fact that Dare has managed to retain a high level from a compositional and performing standpoint while at the same time never failing to leave their unique stamp on the musical map. I think they passed me by with their melodic hard-rock sound, as I was really into my LA Glam and classic rock bands back in the day.I saw this band way back in 1992 when they supported Mr Tempest and the boys on the OOTW tour at the fleahouse in Edinburgh to promote their Out of the Silence 1Tour.

Three decades on, I'm happy that so many bands impacted by such a volatile moment in time kept at it anyway and are still putting out strong material today. The latter went right into the charts in the UK and gave Dare a solid platform for a continuation of this winning streak. He is also king of the ‘bromance’ and ‘Only The Good Die Young’, possibly directed at the memory of Phil Lynott and/or Gary Moore with its atmospheric piano and a Springsteen esque, anthemic feel is probably my favourite on the album. Yes, tempo is far more 'up' than recent work and like past Dare albums, it does take several listens to get to know the tunes. I am so, so overjoyed that America is finally getting to know this amazing band who’s music they were denied for all these years.
