About this deal

Ella shares her light with a fox who becomes a dear friend and her light helps a young owl learn to fly. Through this sharing she makes several good friends that want to give her her greatest wish: to see the sunrise.

She makes friends with other nocturnal creatures by giving them a little of the light she gathers to help them. Each night she wakes and flies around collecting light to give to others so that their way will be lit and that they won’t be so scared in the darkness. It is so important to kindle our own inner flame so that we can be more kind, more giving and able to share our light even more.

But each night she collects bits of light to share with people who need help finding their way in the dark. There's tons of detail and texture in every page with lots of extra bits of 'light' that really make this magical.I was at my last school for 4 years and we had ********* book fairs every term – and every term, I was disappointed by the narrow range of books. The story is lovely on its own, but it’s the illustrations that really make this such a beautiful book to look at and so engaging to read. Again, when she alights upon Luna, a little owl clutching to high branches all alone, Ella calms her with ‘ Don’t be scared. Cette dernière aurait un souhait: voir un lever de soleil, un spectacle qu'elle ne peut regarder du fait de la fragilité de ses ailes à la lumière solaire. I found the visuals here very appealing, appreciating both the wintry vistas (something I always enjoy), and the depiction of Sable (unsurprising, as a fox lover).

There are lots of small things to spot in each double page image, so much so that I couldn’t help but just stare at each page for ages, taking in the wonderful and fun illustrations and the wonderful detail!I love the concept of this story Ella uses her night light to give others Hope and she helps them out with their problems.

You guys are such a force for good and I am a passionate supporter of Indie booksellers, so I'm so happy this worked out well (I'd love to know how many books were sold if you have it to hand - it felt like quite a lot! Altogether, with its repeated rhyme, gentle main character and beautiful illustrations, this is a gentle, lovely picture book. There is a lot going on in a few pages, and it is up to the reader to find what they feel about the book without others telling them. The illustrations are delightful, everything a mind can find in its childish corners is beautifully depicted here: the brightness of stars in the sweet folding of night, the lightness of being of the main character, the goodness of her heart which passes on to her friends, who devise a way to enable her to watch her first sun rise!I found the story engaging, but the chief draw for me (and the reason I picked this up from a library display recently) was the artwork. Her friends come up with a plan and for the first time Ella is able to see the sunrise and still protect her delicate wings. It could teach them how to recognize when someone is giving so much of themselves and to pour into those people as a friend. Flittering about at night, she collects light from everything that glows and glimmers in the darkness, always making sure to share the light she gathers with those who need it most.
