About this deal

Two binding designs, also provided by Burton, capture the drama that runs through the heart of ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’ like the blood red sap of the Weirwood tree. The long reign of Jaehaerys I, starting at Jaehaerys's regency, and ending with the death of Queen Alysanne Targaryen. Pas la même couverture (la couverture du livre reçu est une image tirée de la série), mais c'est pas dérangeant, au contraire puisqu'elle me plaît mieux.

After taking leave of White Harbor, the queen’s retinue sailed up the White Knife to its rapids, then proceeded overland to Winterfell, whilst Alysanne herself flew ahead on Silverwing. Various suitors vie for her hand in marriage, but they all have their own hidden agendas – worse still, her dragons are slipping from her control, hunting and killing where they wish.

According to a new post on Martin’s blog, The Rise of the Dragon is “a lavish visual history of House Targaryen – the iconic family at the heart of HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel series, House of the Dragon – featuring over 180 all-new illustrations! He gleefully and publicly embarks on other projects, and otherwise occupies his time with such trivialities as filling his blog with updates on the New York Jets (which is a waste, by any measure), rather than devoting himself to finishing the saga of Jon Snow, Tyrion Lannister, and Daenerys Targaryen (which is going to be his legacy, or not). It is part of what makes A Song of Ice and Fire so memorable, this willingness to provide a fully un-PC, X-rated take on classic fantasy tropes. These are the histories of all the long dead and crazy Kings and Queens we’ve heard our favourite characters dream about and wish they were. Folio commissioned Hokyoung Kim for the artwork, while the late author’s wife, Wendy Benchley, provides a fascinating new introduction.

And at first, the author thought of that as a fit subject for a short story, not for a massive series of several doorstep sized novels. In 1988 he became a Producer for Beauty and the Beast, then in 1989 moved up to Co-Supervising Producer. Centuries before the events of A Game of Thrones, House Targaryen—the only family of dragonlords to survive the Doom of Valyria—took up residence on Dragonstone. Though fiercely loyal to the Starks of Winterfell, they had brought their own gods with them from the south, and still worshipped the Seven and kept the traditions of knighthood. R. Martin is the globally bestselling author of many fine novels, including A Game of Thrones, A Clash of Kings, A Storm of Swords, A Feast for Crows, and A Dance with Dragons, which together make up the series A Song of Ice and Fire, on which HBO based the world’s most-watched television series, Game of Thrones.

When the queen assured him that only a tenth that number would be coming, Lord Alaric grunted and said, “That’s good. Heirs of the Dragon": Being about 17,000 words long, it focuses on the reign of Jaehaerys I Targaryen and the succession crisis following the deaths of his sons. However, it does eventually move beyond the events of Feast, making it the novel set furthest in the ASoIaF chronology. As a conscientious objector, Martin did alternative service 1972-1974 with VISTA, attached to Cook County Legal Assistance Foundation. It tells the history of House Targaryen, the dynasty that ruled the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros in the backstory of his series A Song of Ice and Fire.

Although I think this was a good read, I will conclude that I can’t actually recommend this to anyone unless they’re extremely fanatics about A Song of Ice and Fire, dying to know every single tiny detail, and wouldn’t mind knowing about every stranger irrelevant to the main series.I have chosen to cast aside my frustrations over the long overdue Winds of Winter and to not let it affect my rating of this book.

Described by Martin as ‘masterpieces of the bookmaker's art’, these are the finest editions of this generation’s most celebrated fantasy series, and if the first volume is anything to go by, A Clash of Kings will soon be as rare as dragon eggs. There are always two sides to every issue, but I can definitely understand how his fans might be annoyed and betrayed when, after waiting years for WINDS OF WINTER, Martin comes out with a 600-plus page tome that's mostly irrelevant to the main story, even though it's set in the same world. Even a lord as stern and flinty as Alaric Stark found himself helpless before Queen Alysanne’s stubborn charm. R. Martin’s landmark series, this lavishly illustrated special edition of A Game of Thrones—with gorgeous full-page illustrations in every chapter— is now fully optimised for ebook readers. Martin can be a fantastic plotter, setting up glorious long-games, layering twists upon turns, and dropping some of the most gut-wrenching set pieces in literature.
