This reread just solidified my love for the story and Karissa’s writing; I will always be a fan of whatever she publishes.

I usually steer away from sci-fi settings, but the author does an excellent job at building a unique space setting that does not overwhelm the story. I pinch my own skin in an attempt to wake myself from the daydream I must be in—but I can’t, because it’s not.

Silas is something like an intergalactic miner (a Mako), uncovering precious artifacts on planets and moons. However, some of the dialogue came off as pretentious (and some of the more unusual words may have been misused, unless Logan really did cheat on Eliza at the beginning by 'canoodling' with a bartender, and everyone missed it), we didn't really get a sense of who Eliza was outside her relationships with Logan and Silas, and the ENDING. Silas, the unknown man in Eliza’s dreams has spent most of his life as a contract pirate, formally known as a Mako, mining the unexplored lands of dangerous moons to earn a living.

For whatever reason, the thought of Silas and Logan sharing a few drinks is keeping me on some catastrophic edge of anxiety. That is not to say that this book is without merit, and I don't just want to rag on it because this debut author is very talented and I was drawn back into it again and again. After years of forming an intimate bond with a mysterious man every time she closes her eyes to dream, a young woman—Eliza—forces herself to find a fulfilling life outside the confines of her own mind.The fig tree is there, too, when war breaks out, when the capital is reduced to ashes and rubble, when the teenagers vanish. A resolve to be a giant among men, to conquer, plunder and seize the greatness that he thinks is his right. Shaggy brown hair curls over his forehead, and even half-hiding his eyes, the stark blue and green irises still puncture the veil.

I found Eliza and Silas to be selfish and short sighted so it made it very difficult to continue reading. Logan hits the ‘up’ button and I watch as blinking lights start descending from the floors above us, catching Silas’s eye over Logan’s shoulder. Silas has a sudden inclination to punch him, to crack the bones in his nose for talking about me like that, for talking about his girl like that—and half a mind to leave him at the bar and go to me right then, finding me alone. Silas knows when a man is attractive, he’s given into that inclination many times, and he can’t help now but notice his and Logan’s very opposite features. Logan is too drunk for this conversation, and Silas is too nettled to treat him with an inkling of more respect.I hate to be so formulaic,” he says, chuckling to himself, “but I was actually headed to find the library on this thing.
