About this deal

A distinctive character that still holds true to the spirit of Ian Hunter, who first created it over 75 years ago. The rich flavour of this Laphroaig Scotch makes it a staple choice, ideal for novices and connoisseurs alike. This whisky has become slightly sweeter in recent years, and it appears beautifully on the nose, amidst the classic iodine/sticking plasters and cool wood smoke we love.

The use of heavily peated malt, along with traditional floor malting techniques, infuses the spirit with the unmistakable aroma of smoldering peat fires. It's like being dragged down to the sea shore in a storm and having your face pushed under the water before being pulled out and left to recover by a fire whilst having your cuts dressed with TCP and sticking plaster. The distillery takes pride in its use of traditional methods, including floor malting and direct-fired stills, which contribute to the authenticity and depth of its expressions. This peated whisky is renowned for its bold, smoky taste, followed by a hint of seaweed and a surprising sweetness. From a 25km-long, storm-buffeted island off the west coast of Scotland comes Laphroaig (pronounced ‘la-froyg’), a Gaelic word meaning ‘beautiful hollow by the broad bay’.Interestingly, a flavour similar to tanning leather develops on the palate with interchangeable sweetness and saltyness to add to complexity. Critic tasting note: "This expression offers an uncompromising note of brine-laden peat and iodine, with charcoal and sweeter fruit notes also present. I've only been through about 4 dozen single malts over 20 years but this is my favourite overall (so far). It is extremely aromatic and pungent - you can always tell when someone is drinking a dram of Laphroaig as you can smell the distinct tarriness from the other end of the room.

Being a coastal distillery, there is plenty of saltiness in the dram too, it really helps to enhance the peaty flavours, and balance the sweetness, making for a really pleasant and balanced dram.

Laphroaig whiskies are known for their bold and intense flavors, characterized by the pungent aroma of peat smoke, medicinal notes, and a hint of maritime saltiness.
