About this deal

Incredibly thoughtful, important but simultaneously wonderfully trashy and entertaining story about the influence that the internet has on humanity.

That being said, I also consumed the entire thing in two sittings, give it a solid 5/5 and will happily read anything from Aron Beauregard. Well handled themes of apathy, alienation, and suicide among the technology addicted youth of today, as well as the complacency of preoccupied parents make this book a compelling and challenging read.Upon hitting rock bottom, Derek becomes obsessed with pulling back the curtain on the malevolent mastermind responsible for his brother's gruesome demise. And has Derek become more fixated with crafting the perfect conclusion for his masterpiece than getting justice for his family? An avid supporter of horror art and illustration, Aron has made it his standard to hire illustrators for every book that he puts out himself under his brand AB Horror.

When a book is touted as “every parents worst nightmare”; it leaves your mind open to all the possibilities. I am not going to rehash the story here – lots of brutal shit goes down – but I want to point out how the question is raised in this one of accountability. And with the things happening in Europe at the moment – I am stunned that people still refuse to believe what is shown to them. Boy is particular fond in finding vulnerable teenagers and makes them participate in "The Dropout Challenge" which ends with the suicide of the teenager. But little does he know, Derek is willing to go to even greater lengths to get the exposure and revenge he seeks!Although, my favourite scene in the book is an all out Slasher scene that brought to mind Clive Bakers character Dr Decker, stalking a family through their house in the opening scenes of Nightbreed.

An avid supporter of horror art and illustration, Aron has made it his standard to hire illustrators for every book that he puts out under his brand AB Horror. As a parent, this particular novel greatly affected me, as it’s an all too real possibility in this day and age where it feels like most of the population lives on their screens.

This story will take you to many uncomfortable places, lots of gore and violence, and, of course, suicide.

Upon hitting rock bottom, Derek becomes obsessed with pulling back the curtain on the malevolent mastermind responsible for his brother’s gruesome demise. Of course, there is also plenty of that Beauregard brutality we all know and love, and some awesome, eye opening illustrations! Aron definitely is on a massive run of truly stellar extreme horror offerings, and Modern Hysteria is no exception. It also offers a truly terrifying insight into the predators that lurk virtually who readily capitalise on the vulnerable for their own deviant ends! Take Oliver from Yellow or Henry from Sew Sorry or Vera in Son of the Sob and now Derek from Modern Hysteria. He battles with his conscience to get to the bottom of it and his journey is an incredible one to read. A story about a very scary and real issue on the Internet, it's such an amazing tool but it's also such a scary and dangerous one. I remember the Momo sensation and my own son had his run in with it as well, at least he was too young to fully understand the gravity of the situation and was simply scared of the images he found alone enough to tell me about it.
