The shut off ramp can be laid out anywhere along the length of the hose, and when the sprinkler meets the ramp, the starter knob under the traveler is pushed in, turning off the sprinkler. The longer the hose run the greater the possibility of it jumping the hose and running into something not intended. In this picture a 19mm (3/4 Inch) male threaded GEKA style Claw-Lock coupling is shown screwed into the rear of the gear box.More people with fine lawns use these and some people prefer them to in ground systems which are prone to breakdown and broken pipes.

We have a huge area to water, and it used to be a chore to move around several different sprinklers to reach all the areas of our yard. The picture to the right shows the automatic shut off device activating against the supplied ramp underneath the sprinkler. The Nelson Rain Train is a water tractor style travelling sprinkler which provides an ideal alternative to installing full irrigation systems.That said it needs a good pressure and I have sometime found it stalled in position when the pressure gets too low, so I don't quite have full confidence to set it and go on its own without periodic checks. This machine works by travelling along a length of garden hose laid out in the area requiring watering (maximum length of 60 metres). The hose can be up to 200 feet long, with the Rain Train at one end, and the shut-off ramp at the other. The Nelson Water Train is not recommended for a 19mm (¾ Inch) hose unless it is in short runs as the extra weight of hose pipe and water within it can damage the internal gear box.

Once a gear is selected and the water is turned on the sprinkler will follow the hose pipe back towards the tap. Position the front wheel of the Nelson Rain Train at the end of the run of hose pipe, with the sprinkler facing back towards the tap. To overcome this situation then a pack washer made of either nylon (pictured above) or rubber should be used behind the GEKA style Claw-Lock coupling.Rear view with a 19mm (¾ inch) male threaded Snap-On style connector fitted into the brass screw connector. Please Note: Some light dripping may occur from the shut off switch when the sprinkler is in operation, this is normal and does not indicate a fault. If you hope it will eliminate your need to hand water trees or give your garden a good soaking, you'll be disappointed. I think a Nelson Rain Train sprinkler is the finest product available for watering your lawn and I highly recommend it.
