About this deal

Each chapter is quite short and devoted to one of the two main protagonists, interspersed with diary entries from a third person. Personally, I think Ellie could have done with a complete overhaul because I do not think she has good characterization.

As you would expect, though — given that this is a thriller and not a romance novel — things don’t go as swimmingly as planned. Zoe's choices can be put down to a youthful naivete, I suppose, and a weakness of character that causes her to cling to the first person to offer to take care of her. Encryption methods are quickly becoming too advanced to break and laws in the US are prioritizing the privacy of American citizens over intelligence collection, meaning that the NSA and other intelligence agencies are facing an uphill battle for signals intelligence. As they start to sift through these half and whole untruths, the secluded setting that once seemed romantic now seems ominous. Following the discovery of Heartbleed, Michael Daniel, cybersecurity coordinator of the Obama administration, publicly addressed the procedure used by the NSA to determine what vulnerabilities to keep and what to disclose.I don’t want to put any spoilers in here as you really need to read this thriller book for yourself to see just how good it is. This convergence in usage creates a conflict between patching system vulnerabilities to protect one's own information, and exploiting the same system vulnerabilities to discover information about an adversary. Their relationship is incredibly unhealthy and I don't feel like Halbrook made her stance on that as a bad thing clear at all.

Definitely going to be one of my favourite reads of this year' 5* READER REVIEW 'Characters, dialogues, plot, narration and execution of the story is brilliant. I could not find one element in this story that paralleled If I Stay in the slightest, and comparing Zoe and Will to Bonnie and Clyde is highly exaggerated to say the least.Spieszę jednak przypomnieć, że gdzie plus, tam i minus - po kilku rozdziałach zdającego się nie mieć końca kluczenia i uników, błagałam jedynie o jak najszybsze zakończenie tej farsy. Ellie is a twenty-three-year-old university student in a relationship with Steven, a university professor who is almost a generation older. Steven is manipulative and controlling; wracked with conflict, insecurity and jealous of his high-achieving father. Though little appears as it is presented, for their weekend will turn into something far more dangerous.

Because I enjoyed the special message the author gave us at the end, even though I want to stuck out my tongue at characters! This was lighter on the dark academia vibes than I anticipated, and I would have preferred some sections to feature more of a focus on the couple's time at university, but that was a very minor flaw in an engrossing and immersive, wickedly devious read. The prologue tells you that something went awry and the rest of the book leads up to that point (which is a style I enjoy). As for the ending, well…had this been a poignant, touching read, I would have bawled my eyes out towards the end. There could have been the twist to end all twists in this novel, but I wouldn’t have cared because I cannot stand these characters.

Secondly I felt the writing was far too heavy on scene description at the expense of character development. If you have this book in your pile, consider putting on a thicker skin and maybe opening up to the possibility that happily ever afters come in different shape or form before reading it.
