About this deal

Don’t leave your pie pans till the next day before you clean them. Instead, clean them after use once they are cool enough for you to handle. You can wipe your pie pans clean with a soft cloth or use mild soap and water. Don’t use acidic detergents or harsh scrubbing pads to clean your pie pans. Also, dry the pans immediately to prevent rusting, especially if they are made with carbon steel. Maintain the pan as the material demands A little leftover pie is a wonderful thing, but storing the leftovers can be a bit of a challenge, particularly if you’ve made a pie with a tall and fluffy meringue top. This pie plate solves the storage problem neatly with a plastic snap-on lid that will keep the pie safe until the last crumb is gone. The lid has vent holes to release heat in case you have to cover your pie while it's still warm—reducing moisture build-up that could make the crust soggy. Deep-dish pie means you can have more filling in your fruit pie and more meat in your shepherd’s pie with enough room left for a generous topping of mashed potatoes. This pretty deep-dish ceramic pie plate has a cheery blue exterior with creamy white on the inside of the pan and on top of the rim. In particular, apple pie. Below you’ll find my favorite pie… and baking recipe… on the planet. It’s my #1 choice out of all the Thanksgiving pies, but I certainly don’t limit it to the fall season. I’ve been making this recipe for years, and after testing multiple different fillings, spices, apple varieties, and other little tweaks, I consider the recipe below to be my very best apple pie. Don’t heat empty or nearly empty glass containers in the microware. When heating oil or butter in the microwave, heat only for the minimal time required—don’t overheat.

Apples: See blog post above for the best apples to use. I usually use 4 Granny Smith and 4 Honeycrisp or Pink Lady apples. Always try to choose a baking dish or pan with the same volume that's called for in your recipe. The depth of the baking vessel can vary, but a dramatic difference can cause issues. Too shallow a depth, and the mixture may overflow. If the baking pan is too deep, pastries may not brown properly, or the sides of a cake may end up higher than the center. If easy cleanup is an important consideration, choose a pie pan that can be put in the dishwasher over one that requires hand-washing. Pies, both sweet and savory, are usually served in the pan they were baked in. That’s why looks matter more for pie pans than for other baking pans. Many manufacturers offer different color options and attractive designs.

Tart apples for baking: Granny Smith (in my opinion, this is the best overall apple for baking), Braeburn, Jonathan, and Pacific Rose

Deep pie pans are pans with dimensions larger than the standard pie pans and can hold larger recipes. For instance, they can be 9.5 or 10 inches wide and 1.4 inches deep. With a deep pie pan, you’ll get more pie crust and filling. Alexia commented: “WOW! The best apple pie I have ever had or made. As with all of the recipes I’ve tried from Sally, it’s a keeper for sure! ★★★★★ “ If you are using square tins the following tells you the equivalent round size tin to use and you can then refer to the table above for pastry quantities. To find the square tin equivalent of rectangular tins do the following: Do not use Pyrex® glassware on the stovetop (open flame, electric burner), under the broiler, in a toaster oven, or on a barbecue grill. This type of usage exposes Pyrex® glassware to potentially damaging direct heat sources.

That rim though is one of its few cons. A small rim can mean "oven-mitt-in-pie" accidents if you're not careful. It also translates to needing two mitted hands to retrieve the pie from the oven. Otherwise, this is one of the best pie plates we tested. Example: The Alan Silverwood tranche tin measures 35.6cm by 12cm which when multiplied, comes to 439.2cm. The square root of 439.2 equals 20.95cm which means that it is roughly equivalent to a 20cm / 8 in square tin (or a 23cm / 9 in round tin) Standard pie pans are approximately one to one and a half inches deep. However, some pie pans are one to one-and-a-half inches deep. These are called deep-dish pie pans; they can contain large pie recipes . Besides, deep pie pans ensure your pie has adequate moisture, thereby preventing the flavors from escaping. We measured the diameter of each pan from the inner edge of the rim and found that the Lindy's pan isn't a true 9-inch pan, but comes close at 8.5 inches. You'll want to keep that in mind when making pies, as you'll probably use slightly less filling than a recipe calls for. It produced a perfectly par-baked shell in less than 25 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit. The custard pie that we baked came out smooth and creamy without overcooking, scrambling, or uneven browning. Unfortunately, cutting slices of pie directly in the pan can leave marks on the bottom of the pan, but it doesn't detract from its overall functionality.

Not for use other than as directed below and in the accompanying products Safety and Usage Instructions. With a mountain of gooey cinnamon apples nestled under a perfectly buttery and flaky pie crust, this is most certainly my favorite apple pie recipe. To bring out the best apple flavor and texture, pre-cook the filling for about 5 minutes on the stove. Bake and cool the pie, and then top with vanilla ice cream for the ultimate homestyle dessert.

If you bake pies to give to others or take to events regularly, it might be worth it to buy a handful. They're sturdier and more attractive than disposable pie pans while still being lightweight, but you haven't lost much of an investment if the pan doesn't get returned to you later on. There are different sizes of pie pans available in the market. What you choose depends on factors such as the number of servings, recipe, etc. Before you buy a pie pan, read the details on it to know the size. Standard-depth pie pans A deep-dish pie pan can be anywhere from 1.5 inches to 2 inches deep. The depth of the pie dish is typically related to the diameter, with larger 10-inch pie dishes having a deeper measurement and an 8- or 9-inch pie dish having a slightly shallower measurement.
