About this deal

In this television series, he has played the character of a chemistry teacher named Keith Church. In the year 2015, author David starred in the BBC series called Partners in Crime and played the role of Tommy Beresford. Wow! I believe that David Williams is a great writer where he writes books that are funny, emotional, happy and sad. But with a message behind them all. It shows each and every hallmark of author David, which are depicted in his previous successful novels. The main protagonist of the novel is named as Ben. He becomes very much bored after being made to stay along with his grandmother at her house. He finds her to be the most boring grandma of all. As well as his Children’s fiction, David has also published four number one bestselling picture books, his latest, The Bear Who went Boo! was published in November 2015 and has had total sales of over 85,000 to date. The Queen’s Orang-utan, David’s third picture book was written exclusively for Comic Relief with David giving all of his proceeds from the book to the charity. Between the years 1989 and 1992, author David studied at the Bristol University. During that time, he used to reside at the Manor Hall and later graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Drama in the year 1992. It was during the university holidays in the year 1990 that David met with his future comedy partner named Matt Lucas while performing at the National Youth Theater.

There is a lot to like about this book. It’s different and the concept is very topical - a dystopian vision of the future with greedy, despotic types in control of the country. And I thought that the story followed some interesting twists and turns. This book was released by the Harper Collins publishers in the year 2010. The story of this novel appears to be an extraordinary and touching description from author David, who had already faced success with his previous novels called Mr Stink and The Boy in the Dress. David has proved himself as a dramatic actor in BBC2's 'Capturing Mary' with Dame Maggie Smith, in BBC1's Agatha Christie series 'Partners In Crime', as Frankie Howerd in the biopic ‘Rather You Than Me’ for BBC4, and on the stage in Harold Pinter’s 'No Man’s Land' starring alongside Sir Michael Gambon. He received the Comedy Award at the Evening Standard Theatre Awards for his performance as Bottom in ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ directed by Michael Grandage. Once again the pairing of David Walliams and Tony Ross created magic. Tony Ross' amazing illustrations completely enhance this wonderful book and perfectly capture the heart and soul of David Walliams' story. In fact, there are about a billion reasons behind his happiness, according to him. Everyone in the town knows that he has enormous wealth and therefore he is one of the richest boys in the city. With the help of the huge amount of money that Joe has to his name, he has developed a private cinema, his personal bowling alley, and also his own butler, who is also believed to be an orangutan. And when his mother, the Queen, is dragged away to the Tower of London, Alfred must screw up his courage and battle to save her, himself… and the entire city.' As an adult, I didn't particularly enjoy this, but listening as someone who needs to be aware of children's tastes and trends, I can't see this making waves as Walliams' comic efforts have done. While Alfie of course becomes a braver hero than he starts out as, it's a genre (or mix of) that is better suited to the adolescent who can deal with the more mature themes more comfortably. There is a lot here that will puzzle and put off.

This was such a cute story and I loved the messages in this. They included trying to normalise people's differences, promoting that we all look different and that's a marvelous thing!

Publication Order of Standalone Novels

I am a massive David Walliams fan, so I expected a lot from this book. As usual David Walliams and Tony Ross delivered the goods.

This show was the one that set up the television career of author David and made him popular. He made his writing debut with the children’s novel titled ‘The Boy in the Dress’. This book opened to the extreme popularity and acclaim after its publication in the year 2008.Raj – From Demon Dentist, Grandpa’s Great Escape, Ratburger, Gansgta Granny, Billionaire Boy, Mr Stink and The Boy in the Dress Ben even believes that his grandmother does not anything other than playing Scrabble and eating cabbage soup. However, there are several things that she has hidden from him and the rest of the world. Ben’s grandmother once used to be an international jewel thief. If you have a middle grade reader in your life, you have to get them some David Walliams novels. Trust me, they will absolutely love them. In fact, why not start them off with this one. There's no time like the present. Added to all this, David’s books have achieved unprecedented critical acclaim: Awful Auntie, Ratburger and Demon Dentist won the National Book Awards Children’s Book of the Year and in France David was awarded the popular Tamtam for Mr Stink and the prestigious Le Prix Du Livre De La Jeunesse for Ratburger, so it comes as no surprise that countless broadsheet reviewers have compared David to his all-time hero, Roald Dahl.

Soon, someone comes into his life, who appreciates Joe for being himself and not because of his money. But still a problem exists as Joe is about to learn that as soon as money gets involved, nothing remains as it used to be. Joe has always heard his elders, saying that the best things in life always come for free, but if he does care about them, he is definitely going to all of them. Since then, author David has developed a reputation for himself as a successor of Roald Dahl. Since the year 2012, author David has been working as a judge on the talent show called Britain’s Got Talent on ITV. Other than that, he has also written a played an important role in a couple of seasons of the BBC One show called Big School.

Well, this is my first David Walliams book and as I am aged 44, I suspect I am not really his target demographic. Most of his books have also been translated into more than 46 foreign languages all over the world. Because of his growing popularity in such a short period of time, author David has been described by as the fastest growing author of children’s books in The United Kingdom. I read the book as I had read odd chapters at bedtime with my daughter but couldn’t quite get the story so told her that I would read it when she had finished it. I’m good for my word! David Walliams has revolutionised reading for children and become one of the most influential children’s writers today. Since the publication of his ground-breaking first novel, The Boy in the Dress (2008), Walliams has seen unprecedented growth with global sales exceeding 32 million copies, and his books translated into 53 languages.
