About this deal

Mind Screw: One of Greg and Rowley's "Zoo-Wee Mama!" comics is about two cavemen in 20,000 B.C. celebrating Christmas, only for one of the two cavemen to point out that Christmas hasn't been invented yet. Rowley has to use his dad's laptop and looks up "Can people lay eggs?" while he's at it, which might bring to mind the events of Dog Days. Rowley starts with Greg's life and when Rowley moved to Greg's street in 4th grade. Rowley was scared of being in a new place. Then his mom gets him a book to make new friends who don’t work with Greg at first. Greg says that he put a flag in the lot of Rowley’s house before they moved meaning that he owned the house, which wasn’t true. Rowley then talks about Greg’s family. This book is written more as a recollection of happenings from Rowley and Greg’s friendship, rather than a plotted story. Rowley tells readers how he and Greg became friends, shares some good and bad times from their relationship and – most importantly – reminisce about their sleepovers. Although Rowley comes across as a bit of a goody-two-shoes in this book, he is, at times, surprisingly perceptive. Rowley’s narration is somewhat simpler than Greg’s and the book overall seems as if it will appeal more to a slightly younger market than Diary of a Wimpy Kid. It is about the same length as the average Wimpy Kid book. The font choice is different and appear a little bit larger. Rowley’s entries have no indication of days or months (like Greg’s do) and are instead represented as a collection of thoughts. Unlike Greg’s, Rowley’s characters do not have noses or ears and his drawings, in general, contains less details.

One of the "That's you" drawings of Rowley depicts him as a broken egg. This could be a reference to Rowley Junior from the original book Rowley Jefferson's Awesome Friendly Adventure . Abrams. August 2020. ISBN 9781419749094 . Retrieved 13 February 2020.

In an interview on the official Wimpy Kid YouTube channel, Kinney described that he noticed "the audience [...] always rooting for Rowley" in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid movies. [10] This inspired him to write a novel from Rowley's point of view. [11] On the subject of the book's illustrations, Kinney said that he liked how his art style is still recognizable even though Rowley "draws like a five year-old." [11] He stated that he enjoyed writing the book and that it is his favorite book in the series, [12] because he likes how Rowley is unable to keep the book's focus on Greg. [11] When asked if the series would change to focus entirely on Rowley, Kinney confirmed that he will continue to write main-series books, but that he would also "really like to write more Rowley books," because "it's a lot of fun, and I think it's really fresh, and [Rowley] can write in lots of different styles about lots of different genres. So I'd really like to get to there, where Rowley is authoring lots of books." [11] The following year, a follow-up to Rowley Jefferson's Journal, titled Rowley Jefferson's Awesome Friendly Adventure, was published. Rowley Jefferson's Awesome Friendly Spooky Stories, another sequel, was released in March 2021. For the past few months, this awaited book had many in excited anticipation, had some shaking their heads and rolling their eyes. Why, you ask? Because this book is the story of Greg and Rowley’s friendship, told from a fresh perspective: Rowley’s. Rowley complains in his diary about having to see Mr. Heffley in his underwear (briefs and shirt) when he comes to scold him and Greg for causing trouble at their sleepover.

Art-Shifted Sequel: The book is mainly drawn in Rowley's art style. When the two's drawings are shown together, you can clearly see the difference . This book shows Greg's negative traits a lot more deeply and clearly, which caused many fans to criticize Greg's behavior in this book. Rowley references the events of the first book in which he created the popular "Zoo-Wee Mama!" comic for the school newspaper and he and Greg got in a fight over it that ended with him eating the Cheese. Rowley apparently has a problem with eating cheese now.One of the "original" superheroes that Greg and Rowley try to come up with is called "Diaper Whip." This is also the name of a game Fregley invents in The Wimpy Kid Do-It-Yourself Book. Diaper Whip was also the planned name for the Loaded Diaper. At the sleepover at the end of the book, Rowley urinates out the window in the morning. Mr. Heffley might have seen it.

Laser-Guided Karma: After telling Rowley that if he's such a baby, he should go sleep in Manny's room, Greg is later punished by his dad to sleep in Manny's room. Greg also gets upset that Rowley has more fun playing with Manny. The imaginary character " Rupert", maybe came from Rowley's German name, which is Rupert as well. He first was mentioned in " The Ugly Truth" when Greg stated in his future autobiography, "I used to live near this kid. I think his name was Rodger, or Rupert, or something" Vignette Episode: While the main Diary of a Wimpy Kid books tend to have a main theme or plot, this one is just a series of random journal entries written by Rowley. Downplayed near the end, in which the vignettes get longer and the last half of the book consists of about three stories. Many Questions Fallacy: Greg slips Rowley a note asking if he's embarrassed about wetting the bed. Rowley just answers no and Greg has to explain the joke. Didn't Think This Through: One of Greg and Rowley's "Zoo-Wee Mama!" comics is about an artist who has just completed his piece, only to find that the canvas is too big too fit through the door. Title Drop: The very first illustration in the book is Rowley's father telling him, "Rowley you are an awesome friendly kid."
