About this deal

Now knit the next 14 stitches onto your second needle. This can feel very fiddly if you’ve not done it before, but it will get easier as you join your knitting into the round. It doesn’t matter whether you needles are on top of each other or underneath – and they’ll probably swing about a bit as well whilst you’re adding new needles. Just take it slowly. If I follow your instructions and k1 ssk, k24 sts etc, and place a marker, this will result in my toe shaping being top to bottom rather than either side of the toes. What have I done wrong?

Ultimately the deciding factor of a down bootie’s weight is its materials. Down insulation, both synthetic and natural, tends to be pretty lightweight when it’s dry. In terms of exterior fabrics, the nylon and polyester materials these down booties are constructed from are also conveniently lightweight. If the stain is fairly large, use a special down cleaning agent or a non-detergent soap and soak the item for around an hour. If you’re knitting on four DPNs, then just divide the total number of stitches by three. You’ll split them across your needles in exactly the same way as in the following pictures but won’t use the fourth needle as you’ll need that to knit with. and this is what the P2tog looks like. It gives a nice neat finish to your heel with no gappy holes. Now we are going to change to our 2.5mm circular needle. All you have to do is to knit the stitches from the DPN onto your circular needle for the next round, continuing to knit in K2, P2 rib.Best Overall Down Booties for Warmth Weight, and Comfort: WESTERN MOUNTAINEERING Flash Down Booties

Hold the two DPNs with your left hand. Insert the wool needle purl-wise into the first stitch on the front DPN and pull the yarn through. Don’t take the stitch off the DPN. Continue in this way, adding one stitch between slip stitch and SSK or P2tog on each row until all of the heel stitches are used (ie, Row 5: Sl1, P8, P2tog, P1; Row 6: Sl1, K9, SSK, K1, etc) until all of the heel stitches are used. Depending on how many stitches are in your heel flap, you may find that the K1 and P1 stitch is not required at the end of the last two rows. Remember to adjust the yarn that you’re wrapping from time to time so that you create a ball shape rather than just wrapping over and over in the same place.

The booties won’t be much for warmth if there’s no way to trap in the heat they're producing. Therefore, many pairs come with enclosures around the ankles, like elastic cuffs or cinch draw-strings. Either works and deciding which feels or fits best is the user's call. Just ensure the cuffs fit comfortably yet securely to keep warm air in and stop cold air from getting in. Repeat rounds 1 and 2 until you have decreased to the number of stitches that you cast on, then work straight until the foot is the required length. If you care about the planet and where your products come from, then it is important to know how sustainably sourced your down booties are. Tending to be more accessible in price and availability, synthetic-stuffed booties are also a great option for someone wanting to keep their toes warm without breaking the bank or worrying about animal byproducts. Often the word “down” is associated with an insulation material but don’t let that confuse you. Now bring the yarn down and over your thumb so that you are wrapping from inside to outside over your thumb.
