About this deal

At Crawfords Metal Detectors we would like to stipulate that we believe that there is not definitive ‘right or wrong’ on which detector is better in this analysis, and it should be approached on an individual basis. A detector with higher features might not be the best for you, it depends on your perception of value, and your particular circumstances. Anyhow, let’s progress and hopefully we can help you make a decision. At the time of writing this post wireless headphones were available until the end of January 2020. Both models come with the following: That’s it, everything else is the same, the great performance, the Multi IQ technology with the simultaneous frequencies, waterproof design, and fast and accurate target ID.

As noted in the table above, both the Equinox 800 and 600 are capable of utilizing simultaneous multi-frequency detection. This is also referred to as Minelab’s Multi-IQ Technology. Iron Bias.

The Equinox 700 wins on discrimination, waterproof rating, headphones, composition and auxiliary features (torch, vibration etc). There are special conditions where advanced settings will be required, like difficult soil conditions, for instance. In such cases, having your user manual at hand will help a great deal for reference.

The Equinox 800 offers 3 additional search frequencies compared to the 600. See the table below. Note: The additional 4kHz frequency for the 800 is available after you update the software ( Software Update 3.0) from Minelab. Equinox 800 Field mode is optimised fordetectinghistorical fields and designed tofind the broadestrange of target sizes. The Equinox 600 seems to look like the Equinox 800 in appearance, but its differences lie in its features. The control box is very similar on both machines, identical in terms of quality and with very minor changes. Icons and buttons lie in the same places which mean that if you are considering an upgrade from the Equinox 600 to the Equinox 700 then you will have virtually no learning curve. It’s also worth pointing out that if you’re new to the Equinox range you won’t struggle too, as the screen is simple. The arc number in the centre is the target identification number, depth indicator lies to its right hand side, the circular graphic shows the discrimination pattern, battery life is in the top left corner and search modes are at the bottom. It’s nice and simple. We asked Minelab about if they differ and they said that the new Equinox models have a ‘tuned’ version of Multi-IQ. They did not specify how, and to be honest, I’m not sure we’d understand if they did, but it suggests marginal improvements that are down to processor efficiency. The search modes also remain the same. Field, Beach and Park are all accessible, with the Gold search mode being reserved for the Equinox 800 and Equinox 900 models. The Minelab Equinox is one of the best all purpose metal detectors ever built by Minelab. The Equinox whether its the 600 or 800 model, offers simultaneous multi-frequency operation also know as Multi-IQ Technology. Five Frequency Times Eight) provides five individual transmit frequencies in the one metal detector, selectable at the push of a button. Each transmit frequencyoptimisesthe detector for different size targets and conditions.EQUINOX 800 offers 5 single frequencies of 5, 10,15, 20, and 40 kHz, giving an 8times range or ratio from 5 to 40, hence the 5F×8technology designation. The compromises are one less detecting mode, the 600 doesn’t have the Gold Mode, your choices in some of the settings are not as wide as the 800 and the WM08 wireless unit isn’t supplied. Also, the individual frequencies you can choose are limited, with only 5, 10 & 15 kHz being available.
