DST= Daylight Savings Time. Many countries in the Northern Hemisphere (north of the equator) use DST in the summer time, but not all. Daylight Saving Time usually starts in March-April and ends in September-November when the countries return to standard time, or winter time as it is also known. In the Southern Hemisphere (south of the equator) the participating countries usually start the DST period in September-November and end DST in March-April. As mentioned in one of my earlier 52Mondayz columns, I’m a fan of (ana-)digital quartz watches. Besides my real passion for high-end and even complicated classical timepieces, I love watches with additional functions which can’t be fulfilled by a mechanical movement. After the mode pusher, starting the stopwatch is done by pressing the top-right pusher; no surprise here. The indication of seconds and minutes of the stopwatch is done in the sub-register at 8. However it takes quite a while before the hands in this sub-register have set to zero, so you can’t just set the function to ST and start the stopwatch; depending on where the little hands are in the sub-dial it’ll take quite some seconds before you’re able to operate the stopwatch. -1. Currently one of the smallest is the AWG-100, dimensions are 52 x 46.4 x 14.9mm. One of the larger models is GSW-H1000 at 65.6 × 56.3 × 21.3 mm but new watches are released every day that could exceed these dimensions.
