About this deal

this was a cute little retelling of cinderella.

My shoulders heave with rage. The sensible part of me screams to swallow my pride and simply walk away. But another part—and I have no doubt it’s my fae side—refuses to be silenced. The beginning of this story was a bit agonizing, as most Cinderella retellings are. I wish Ember had had just one friend or one positive relationship so it wouldn't have been so depressing. It also took a bit longer to get to the main plot - the fake relationship - than I would've liked.

BUT, all that said, this was still so very, very good. Do you like the fake relationship trope? Seducing a prince? Roguish rakes with a heart of gold? A slow burn romance with a bit of steam? Then you will LOVE this book. Surely, you can handle one month of fine dinners and balls.” Her tone tells me she finds my plight rather shallow. Maybe she’s right, but still… I enjoy this author and am listening to this while waiting for the third book in her Fair Isle Trilogy to be released three days from the time of writing this review. And so far I think it will be as good as the Fair Isle Trilogy, however, for those that have not read her other books, this book should come with major spoiler alerts! It needs to be read after others! And don’t get me started on the chemistry these two have!! It’s so freaking well written and I loved the pacing of it! It wasn’t too abrupt nor too slow. It was just perfect (at least imo).

ACOTAR meets Bridgerton in this standalone fairytale retelling of Cinderella. If you like slow burn romance, fake engagements, and snarky fae royals, then you'll love this swoon-worthy story in the Entangled with Fae series. I do know you. I may not know every fact, but I’ve gotten to know you more in two weeks than I’ve ever gotten to know a person in my lifetime. The same goes for how I’ve allowed you to know me. I’ve shared things with you I’ve never told anyone.” I furrow my brow in surprise; I hadn’t known of our destination until now. Madame Flora is a fae glamourist who specializes in weaving glamours for human entertainment and cosmetic purposes. While I’ve never been to her shop, I know her wares don’t come cheap. Why would Mrs. Coleman spend her dwindling finances on a visit to Madame Flora?

For the first time, having expectations did me good. Why? Because Tessonja broke them. She brought vulnerability where I expected power play, she brought honestly where I expected a game of lies and where I thought I’d see exactly Cinderella on paper in a Fae fantasy retelling, she brought a wonderful story touched by elements of Cinderella. Tessonja’s writing definitely keeps us interested both intellectually and emotionally. Imogen scoffs. “We haven’t been to every court’s social season. Why won’t you take us to Autumn or Fire? Doesn’t Aunt Marie have a cottage near Maplehearth Palace?” Note: This book is upper young adult/new adult, featuring mature situations and some adult language. The romance is slow-burn but leads to moderate steam.
