House Vizsla] used the saber to unify the people and strike down those that would oppose them. At one time, they ruled all of Mandalore wielding this blade,” said Rau. Despite being superior to Din Djarin in terms of Darksaber mastery, he nevertheless managed to lose his worthy darksaber during their epic battle. During the second season of The Mandalorian, Din Djarin vanquished Moff Gideon in a fight, unknowingly claiming the Darksaber for himself. Darksaber – In The Hands Of Din Djarin There are also some special effects that you can trigger for cinematic shots and poses. Pressing the small button above the ignition button will make a blaster deflection sound, with the blade flashing to signal the blow. Holding this button down will trigger a molten tip effect to represent the blade cutting through a solid material (like Qui-Gon Jinn cutting the door in Phantom Menace). In short, the darksaber resents being used by a self-centered bounty hunter who really isn’t concerned about Mandalore, which is why Din Djarin had so much difficulty controlling it. In The Mandalorian Season 2 finale, Moff Gideon implies that he himself may be responsible for overthrowing Bo-Katan and robbing Mandalore of its rightful ruler, which would explain the animosity between the two of them hinted at in Bo-Katan's first Mandalorian appearance in episode 203. We're certain to learn more about the Darksaber's history and the previous encounters between Gideon and Bo-Katan in The Mandalorian Season 3. Is The Darksaber Cursed?

This was surely not the future Bo-Katan wanted, but perhaps it was something she foresaw. Bo-Katan is practical, but a nagging thought began to weigh on her as she witnessed her home fall under the Empire’s control. The sign of her leadership, the Darksaber, wasn’t rightfully earned. The Empire at her door would no doubt remind her of the legend surrounding the Darksaber, especially the part about Mandalore being “laid to waste” if the blade is wielded by the undeserving. Increasingly haunted by these fears and insecurities, she likely experienced the same resistance that Din felt when lifting the blade. What I will not apologize for is that, despite my error, my argument was still correct! Bo-Katan became the rightful owner of the Darksaber after rescuing Din Djarin from that awesome, creepy Phil Tippett-ass monster. As we see at the end of this week’s episode, it appears that even Din himself seems to agree with that argument.

Star Wars: Are You Ready For The Mandalorians? by Goldman, Eric on IGN ( January 28, 2010) (archived from the original on June 7, 2017) As part of his retaliation against Kenobi, Darth Maul used the Darksaber to assassinate Duchess Satine in front of the Jedi master.

A Darksaber theory

As a representation of House Vizsla’s and subsequently Death Watch’s authority, it was revered by the Mandalorians. In accordance with Mandalorian tradition, obtaining a Darksaber required defeating its prior owner in battle. Their claim would have been rejected if they had made it in any other manner. Bo-Katan, on the other hand, was welcomed by other clans when she took the Darksaber from Sabine Wren without engaging in combat—an act for which she would later be outcast. The Children of the Watch, one faction of Mandalorian society, held the Darksaber to be cursed and that if it was obtained outside of battle, it would bring about the downfall of Mandalore and its inhabitants. Usage Of Mandalorian Darksaber Moff Gideon understood the cultural importance of the Darksaber, and destroyed it in part to win a symbolic victory against the Mandalorians. He had previously advantage of the divisions between the different Mandalorian clans, and no doubt hoped they would be unable to cooperate without the Darksaber - a symbol giving a leader authority. It is ironic, then, that Moff Gideon was ultimately defeated by a union of Mandalorian clans who had previously been enemies, those led by Bo-Katan Kryze and the Armorer. Their victory - and, indeed, their survival - shows there is still a future for Mandalore.

Maul eventually crossed paths with the crew of the Ghost in Star Wars Rebels years later on the planet Malachor. Ezra Bridger found himself linked to Maul after the two discovered they each held secrets the other desired. When Maul took Ezra to Dathomir to retrieve those buried memories, Ezra discovered the Darksaber among Maul’s possessions. Moff Gideon struggled at first to master the ancient weapon, but he eventually became a skilled wielder of the Darksaber. About the Darksaber, he held a completely unique point of view. The history of how he came to possess the darksaber is unclear, although it’s likely that it was in accordance with Creed’s teachings, as the sabre never raised any objections. Kanan showed it to the Mandalorian warrior Fenn Rau in “Trials of the Darksaber,” who shared the artifact’s history. “This saber is an important symbol to [House Vizsla] and respected by the other clans,” said Rau. “If Sabine can wield this saber, she can reunite one of the most powerful houses in all of Mandalore.” The former Sith used the Darksaber for his own dark purposes, including killing one of the people who meant the most to Obi-Wan Kenobi. Maul also wielded it against his former master when Darth Sidious traveled to Mandalore to quash him as a potential rival to his power, and later crossed blades with General Grievous and Mace Windu in the comic series Darth Maul - Son of Dathomir. This lightsaber was stolen from your Jedi Temple by my ancestors during the fall of the Old Republic. Since then many Jedi have died upon its blade. Prepare yourself to join them!" ―Pre Vizsla, to Obi-Wan Kenobi — Listen ( file info) [2]Enjoy fantastic spectacular effects that will raise the stakes of your battle. You really must have this Mandalorian lightsaber in your collection, because it makes you feel like a genuine Mandalorian warrior. First thing to know about the Darksaber: There’s only one of them. It’s a bit of a collector’s item in the world of Star Wars, with a history a hell of a lot longer and more complicated than the Skywalker family’s blue lightsaber. Combining advanced LEDs and entertainment-inspired Lightsaber sound effects, the Force FX Elite Lightsaber is the most realistic Force FX Lightsaber yet The Darksaber is unique in that it makes a distinctive sound than other lightsabers. Strikes produce an electric sizzle that signals impending mortality, while swings are followed by quieter chirping noises. The Darksaber was eventually recovered by Sabine Wren, a Mandalorian with ties to House Viszla, who returned the blade to Mandalore. In a show of good will, Wren gave the Darksaber to Bo Katan Kryze to help unify the planet after decades of infighting. Kryze held the sword until the Great Purge of Mandalore, when it would fall into Moff Gideon’s hands.

Unfortunately, the Darksaber has a habit of trading hands again and again. During the Clone Wars, Tarre Vizsla's descendant Pre Vizsla (voiced by The Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau) used the blade to rally his Death Watch recruits against Mandalore's political leader, Duchess Satine Kryze. Pre Vizsla made the mistake of forging an alliance with ex-Sith Lord Darth Maul, who killed him in ritualistic combat and became the new leader of Death Watch. At the end of the day, I think we can all agree on one thing: The “rules” regarding the Darksaber are murky at best and absolute ad hoc bullshit at worst. It’s just one of those rules that bends to fit the story, like Leia having memories of her mother in Return of the Jedi when Revenge of the Sith shows Padmé’s death right after giving birth, or Poe Dameron’s infamous “Somehow, Palpatine returned” line from 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. Star Wars fans finally got to see the Siege of Mandalore play out thanks to The Clone Wars: Season 7. The Siege of Mandalore is the last of three major story arcs in that final season. While the final episodes don't show Din Djarin or other characters from The Mandalorian Season 1, it does reveal how Ahsoka Tano's good intentions in leading a Republic strike force to capture Darth Maul wound up opening Mandalore to Imperial occupation. With Ahsoka herself appearing in Season 2 (played by Rosario Dawson) and an Ahsoka Tano spinoff series announced, the franchise may explore Ahsoka's lingering guilt over her role in Mandalore's sad fate. A Knights of the Old Republic Connection A lot of major events have happened during this season of The Mandalorian. After our hero Din Djarin took a bath because he’s a dirty, filthy apostate (boo!) and rejoined the loving embrace of his fellow Mandalorian cultists, the season dedicated an entire episode to exploring the bureaucratic banality of evil and the “difficult” (not that difficult) question of whether all space Nazis are bad, and hey, even everyone’s favorite big furry Lasat star pilot from Star Wars Rebels, Garazeb “Zeb” Orrelios, showed up in the fifth episode! Everyone loves Zeb! The Mandalorian people’s misery is represented by this particular color, hence these feelings most likely influenced its formation. Whatever the cause, the Darksaber is still a special weapon whose history has to be fully explained. The Darksaber was created for The Clone Wars with the guidance of George Lucas, Dave Filoni has revealed, who conceptualized a weapon that would be effective against a lightsaber. “George wrote that little speech [about the Darksaber] for Pre Vizsla,” Filoni recalled in a Star Wars Rebels behind-the-scenes featurette. “What I added to that was this idea that the Darksaber was Mandalorian-made. That it was something that the Mandalorians felt was part of their heritage would make it way more valuable.” Now, as the Armorer reminds us in this episode, the Darksaber has a long, important history in the Star Wars universe. On the grand occasion of Mando returning to our lives, here's everything you need to know about the Darksaber. The Mandalorian hasn’t offered many details on the fate of Mandalore in the Galactic Civil War. The cost of rebellion was a high one for the proud planet, turning the sight of Mandalorian armor into a rarity in the years following the fall of the Empire.
