What did you like most about the Mindful Monsters product? I love that there is a variety of cards such as ones for relaxation, concentration, activity etc. They suit a variety of situations. Colouring is a significant way of improving a broad range of skills in young children. Here, we look at some benefits of colouring in with your students.

Not really. The activities seemed a bit old for my 4yo who was more interested in sorting the cards by colour than doing what was on them. Sometimes he got more involved but it was a bit patchy. As is the case with all of our resources here at Twinkl, these monster colouring sheets are designed by educators with the national curriculum in mind. So, you can be sure to obtain learning materials that will maximise learning outcomes and potentials. We conducted insight interviews with mums with primary school children and uncovered that they wanted to build their children’s emotional resilience so they are able to thrive in an uncertain world. Dd did go through the cards and sort them into categories, had a go at some of the activities but they didn't really hold her attention as much as I hoped(she is currently waiting on an assessment for add though, very short attention span). Children can also be encouraged to talk about how they think the monsters are feeling, while they work on their fine motor skills. You can ask them to use coloured pencils to trace over the lines to match a colour to how the monster is feeling. For example, the happy monster could be decorated using yellow pencils and for the angry monster, children could use red pencils. I think the most important part of it is that Ezzy tells a parent about these problems, and she talks through the problems; teaching Ezzy about mindfulness and how to consider each problem. It’s good that the book talks about how these things can be solved, and to reach out for help from friends and family if you need a bit of extra advice. Of course, with real life children, there are all different kinds of reasons for their problems, so not all problems can be solved the same way; but the important bit is to encourage the kid to talk about the problems, and perhaps help brainstorm on how to fix problems. And I think it’s important because it can open up a dialogue between you and your kid about what feelings they might be facing, if you’re looking to communicate with them more; ask them about any emotions they might be experiencing, and what’s causing those emotions. Sorry to be negative but I have to be honest about the product. Unfortunately they didn't engage my children at all. When we received them, they were interested in opening up the boxes and reading the cards but after that, they weren't particularly bothered about them. I think they thought the design was a bit babyish for them and we all wondered how to use them.
