About this deal

This is the first book of Nicci Harris’ that I have read. What have I been missing! This book was absolutely phenomenal, I could not put it down. Idk I physically couldn't read anymore- the writing really wasn't for me, (nor was the dialogue or characters) 🤷‍♀️. I relish the elevated romance within Cosa Nostra as the lines between love, desire, and obsession begin to blur creating an eruption of forbidden passion and ecstasy. Max and Cassidy's relationship is the type of love story that you love to hate, innately they know its bad for them, but like a slut for punishment they pursue it anyway because in the immortal words of Cassidy, "avoiding conflict to prevent a battle, can often start a war on your heart." The best part of it is that it's set in Australia, which is way too rare, especially considering how many Aussie authors dominate indie dark romance. There are SO many books where characters will say Aussie slang, but it's supposed to be set in America, so it's just distracting and takes you out of the story. I don't get why authors do that! Just set it in Australia! We Americans will still read it! So, this author DID do that, and props to her. It makes the setting feel unique, and interesting.

Now I find myself not wanting to end this review, because that means their story is over, and it breaks my heart. So when everything we created together is ripped away, I burn the idea of a peaceful life. Widening my arms to my inevitable fate, I accept my duties. I enjoyed this one a lot it managed to easily pull me into the narrative and these two have so much chemistry together it finishes on a HFN so no cliffhanger and I’m definitely ready for more Cassidy and Max in the next book which I’m looking forward to starting. Disclosure: I received a free copy of this book from Book Sirens and am leaving a review voluntarily. I adored Cassidy and Max's chemistry in this book. They are from two different worlds, but compliment each other so well. Their love makes sense and Max isn't as big and scary as he shows himself to be. And their scenes were a mix of sweet and incredibly steamy.

I relish the elevated romance within The Duet as the lines between love, desire, and obsession begin to blur creating an eruption of forbidden passion and ecstasy. Max and Cassidy's relationship is the type of love story that you love to hate, innately they know its bad for them, but like a slut for punishment, they pursue it anyway because in the immortal words of Cassidy, "avoiding conflict to prevent a battle, can often start a war on your heart." Cassidy goes on a double date as a favour to her best friend Toni, she ends up hitting it off with the guy and they start making out. Only someone is watching them and isn’t happy about what is happening!! Max totally broke me though: in the best way: his all-consuming love for Cassidy: chapter 34 of Cosa Nostra absolutely destroyed me…and like Cassidy: I love Max Butcher: Menace. I’m going to claim every part of this body. Remind you who you belong to.” He suddenly rears up, still pumping his hips at a steady pace, shaking with the ecstasy of the feeling of us together. His expression is one of agony and anguish. Cassidy is an astounding ballerina who is making a name for herself, all while she crushes on Max Butcher from afar. But now she finds she has his attention and she is loving it. But his world is dark and for someone like her it's unsafe. The deeper they fall together, the deeper she dives into his world.

no condom use or discussion even though he has been whoring around and she was actively sleeping with her fiance Our Thing & Cosa Nostra Duet is a Grumpy Sunshine Australian Mafia Romance that took my heart on this deliciously suspenseful and steamy journey of the epic love story that is the Sweet Ballerina Girl and her Butcher Boy Menace and hooked me on from beginning to end and I just could not get enough! I mean, his love is so beautiful it’s almost touchable. He is so beautiful,,,,, crazy, funny, deadly, cute, adoring, vulnerable, possessive, protective, desperate, monster, lover, savior, owner, giver,,, I lift my weighted, dazed eyes open to find heated green-blue flames within his. As a dark shadow of possessiveness moves into his eyes, he jolts up to grab my throat. His fingers twist against the pulsing rhythm of my pussy, setting me off completely. “No I don’t control my dimple.” He laughs. “But I do know he’d like to be rubbing against your inner thigh right now.” »

Customer reviews

Max Butcher, notorious bad boy as the community knows him. He is not a relationship type of guy and is proud of it. He is known for his reputation of fighting/boxing. Will this all change when Cassidy comes into his life or will he keep her at an arm's distance.

There’s a couple of twists, one I saw coming and one I didn’t. And that one ruined me. Like snot dribbling, ugly crying got me. And that friggin’ letter. I WAS A MESS!!!WHO JUST WANTS SMUT AND ENDS UP CRYYYYIIIIING AND SO IN LOVE WITH THE STORY?!?!?! Man, I’m all up in my feels! I loved her relationship with her sister, and especially her best mate Tony: Oh my giddy Aunt: Tony had the best lines and banter I really loved their friendship.

the H is a 24 yr old bad boy mafia dude, he’s an elusive manwhore when he meets the h, commitment-phobic, but very protective and jealous/possessive of the h and surprisingly romantic - he’s got a vulgar mouth 😅 Ch30 of book1 Our thing, deserves special mention because until then the story was oscillating between romance and the sneak peeks of mafia in the District and what secrets lay therein..but this chapter...this chapter explained "A thief is a criminal until he's stealing to feed his kin. A neglectful mother is a bad mother until she is working two jobs to give her children the best opportunities. A gun is terrifying until it's what's keeping you safe, and then you're terrified without it." which Cassidy thinks in a chapter long before this one...The way she was frozen but later stood up for herself and like desperate times call for desperate measures?,she just did it!I loved her more in this chapter. Nicci gave us an epic love story full of passion, and super steamy, spicy but not without the angst: it seems like many of my unicorn authors, Nicci likes to torture you, in the best way: she’s given us this gritty Australian Mafia Romance that is so dark and delicious that you never want to leave. Cassidy is a focused ballerina with a crush on Max Butcher, she has watched him from a far but never spoken to him, until her birthday party where she gets drunk and ends up telling him how hot he is. If you are anything like me and you fell in love with the Kids of the District in Book # 1- Facing Us, then you'll know that the expectations were pretty high for the sequel. Having gone through the myriad of emotions at the complexity of "Facing Us", I wasn't sure how Nicci Harris would top that but, I was pleasantly surprised to note how different, yet alike the two books were. "Our Thing" was quite a turn from the darkness of "Facing Us" but kept the signature 'contemporary romance' vibe which was enjoyable.

Advance Praise

The story starts off with Cassidy finishing a dance tour and heading home to her 18th birthday party with her gay best friend Toni. There she meets the tall, sexy, intimidating Max. Growing up as a Butcher boy, he is no stranger to violence but he struggles to find his place in the Empire of Corruption.
