Your less than ideal experience with the S3 could be caused by several factors, like pressing a bit too hard, going over an area repeatedly or maybe just having a coarser and denser beard. The S3 is a really basic shaver, very decent for the price, but more suitable for men with light to medium facial hair. i spent a lot of time reading the differences and pros and cons in all the electric shavers that you wrote about, that’s what brought me to the decision to get the arc5 since you said it’s an extremely close shave and highly recommended it. As mentioned previously, the Panasonic Arc 5 generation 3 shavers have been revised 8 times since the launch of the first A revision (that included models like the ES-LV9N/ES-LV9A, ES-LV6N/ES-LV6A).

I think you should get the ES-LV65-S and in the future just upgrade to the ES9036 set (that comes standard on the ES-LV6Q). It’s definitely more convenient than buying a gen 3 Arc 5. The revisions E and F also have a different foil compared to the C and D models, at least in the sense that it has a different part number.

Considering the price difference, getting the ES-LV65-S over the ES-LV6Q makes a lot of sense. I personally would buy the ES-LV65-S without hesitating.
