About this deal

Calling all Geeks!! What an awesome cookbook, who would think that you could get the same food that is in your most favorite geeky shows, such as Star Wars, Harry Potter and even Dr.Who? Well with this cookbook you can. The first chapter is Beverages, non alcoholic. Blue Milk from Star Wars, Red Potion from various video games such as The Legend of Zelda, Minecraft and World of Warcraft. Another beverage is Butter Beer from Harry Potter and of course it would not be complete without a "Blood" recipe from your favorite vampire shows. On to alcoholic recipes to add a bit of spice to your marathon watching geeky shows party. In the introduction, the author tells us how the idea for this book came to be. A great cook should follow their own instincts, according to Cassandra Reeder, make substitutions, add in whatever strikes your geeky soul. I think I will be trying Dragonbreath Chili...just the name sounds fiery. With each recipe the author lets the reader know a bit about where the the recipe was inspired from. Of course with the chili, I will have to tame it down a bit as hubby and I are upward in years and all that spice will certainly hurt our innards. But I sure want to try it. Another recipe that I want to try is 1Up Mushroom Cupcakes from....yup Super Mario Bros my favorite of all time game. Cassandra Reeder’s The Geeky Chef Cookbook is a fun collection of unique recipes which are inspired by popular media like Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings, The Hunger Games and The Legend of Zelda. I love Reeder’s writing style and the detailed recipe instructions. I also like the pictures but I would have liked to see all the finished food as well as a more exciting book design.

Let me start out by saying that, as a vegan, what drew me to The Geeky Chef Cookbook wasn't so much the recipes as the intersection of food and pop culture. Two of my favorite things, made exponentially better when mashed up together! Anyway. My point is: Pop culture and food? Totally my jam. Even though I thought it unlikely that I'd actually make anything from The Geeky Chef Cookbook - or at least precisely as directed - I suspected I might enjoy it anyway, maybe even come away with some new ideas and a list of recipes to veganize. I’m a huge geek, so when I saw this book, I knew I had to read it. I mean, geeky recipes inspired by fantasy works? Sign me up! It’s such a cute book full of fun recipes inspired by a variety of fantasy works. I love that there are dishes inspired by books, movies, games, and television shows. This seems like a great time for cookbooks as we are all probably eating at home more. This entry has a fun twist. The author has created recipes around favorite books. Below are some examples:

Covering basic recipes – through desserts, there is something for everyone. Each recipe features the name of the geekverse that inspired it. You’ll find . . . Babylon 5: Spoo, Doctor Who: Fish Fingers and Custard, The Hunger Games: Gheese Buns, Star Trek: Plomeek Soup, World of Warcraft: Dragonbreath Chili, Firefly: Wife Soup, Adventure Time: Bacon Pancakes, Outlander: Highland Sandwiches, Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Doublemeat Medley, Harry Potter: Cauldron Cakes, Super Mario Bros: 1Up Mushroom Cupcakes, The Hobbit: Seed Cakes, The Chronicles of Narnia: Turkish Delight, My Little Pony - Friendship is Magic: ChimiCherryChanga, The X-Files: Nonfat Tofutti Rice Dreamsicle, and so many more! (I know some sound odd, but all of the recipes are suited to human tastes)

I admit that I am 100% the audience for this book as I am a self-professed geek/nerd person. However! I will say that not only does this book tap into favorite series, films, and books of mine, but it delivers in the recipe department as well! These recipes, and the perfectly-lengthed descriptions for each, were a delight to read through, and I am excited to prepare several. Also, there is some nod to those of us who pursue plant-based living, and that is appreciated.

NEW PRINCESS BRIDE COOKBOOK!

I haven’t made any of the recipes myself, although I really want to make those lemon cakes from ASOIAF, the cake from Portal, and the cauldron cakes from HP. Apparently, I’m more of a sweet tooth than I give myself credit from. Preheat oven to 375 F. In a mixing bowl, combine flour and salt. Cut in butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

the original series. It takes place in the 1920s, as magical animal rights activist Newt Scamander visits the Listen. I am a nerd. I am a huge, capital 'N' Nerd and I love all things bookish, tv-series-ish, film-ish or anything else geeky-ish. That obviously includes the food. I mean, what is Harry Potter without the constant mention of treacle tart, really? Or the twelfth Doctor without his fishfingers and custards? Champagne! Using thoroughly American ingredients like bourbon and apple cider, this delicious shooter Other Desserts: The Chronicles of Narnia: Turkish Delight; Harry Potter: Treacle Tarts; My Little Pony: ChimiCherryChanga. How about starting the dinner with a nice Slurm from Futurama or if you want to get your significant other in special mood an alcoholic beverage like a Romulan Ale.

NEW! COMING SEPT. 26

The recipes are quite easy and straight forward for my skill level (which is admittedly quite advanced), but I think that they will be suitable for home cooks of any skill and experience level. The author does a good job of breaking down the recipes and giving you the tools needed for success. Additionally, while not all of the recipes have photos, most do. Photos are always a boon to a cookbook, in my opinion. I want to see what the final product should look like, even if I can suss it out for myself. Bonus! The photos are themed for the particular property from which they are taken (delight is in the details). Now, I am an absolute noob in the kitchen, but most of the recipes are so simple and great that even I can do them and they look AMAZING (my personal favourite are the Pumpkin Pasties, SO GOOD!), which means that you definitely have no excuse not trying these out. The pictures along want to make you be really good at cooking, I promise you. There are also three "generic" recipes for blood (vampires), red potions (video games), and mead (misc. geek) that I thought were pretty fun and creative. The recipes are clearly detailed and easy-to-follow. I love Reeder’s light and witty humour which gives a lovely touch to an already wonderful cookbook! Each recipe begins with a great brief introduction about the media that inspired it. Most of the dishes are simple and feature common pantry staples. However, for the more adventurous, there are some slightly more complicated dishes with fun specialty ingredients like high energy plankton, herring, and squid!

I am really impressed and mildly amazed at the broad array of food from a very broad array of literary and cultural icons as disparate as Babylon5, Discworld, TMNT, Hunger Games, Zelda, HP, Minecraft and so many more. Let the pie cool in the fridge for at least 2 hours until set. When it's almost done cooling, prepare the whipped cream: Add the cream and sugar into a mixing bowl and whip with hand mixer until you are able to form peaks. Be careful not to over-whip. As for the entrée, if you have started with the Plommek Soup why not cook some Gagh, a dish that any fun loving Klingon love. Whether you binge sci-fi TV shows, rewatch cult films, get addicted to MMORPGs, or read all the fantasy book series, The Geeky Chef Cookbook has your fictional food fantasies covered.

Australian Food

The Geeky Chef Cookbook is full of appetizers, main dishes and desserts inspired by all your favorite fandoms. Some of the recipes are classics with a twist. Some of them are new creations. All of them sound delicious. cup Soda Water (you can also use Tonic Water to make it UV reactive but it will make the taste bitter) Remove from heat, then add the butter and vanilla and stir some more, until both are completely incorporated. I wouldn't exactly call myself a chef, but I do love to play with my food, and I'm no stranger to veganizing and recipie-zing (is that a word? can we make it one?) foods from my favorite books and television shows. To wit: last year's VeganMoFo theme, Carbs & Rec, in which I blogged foods found in and inspired by the always-awesome Parks & Recreation (may she rest in peace). There were Mac & Cheese Pizzas, Meat Tornadoes, Champion’s Peanut Butter Oatmeal Birthday Biscuits, You Just Got JAMMED! Kolaches, and of course waffles galore.
