About this deal

In the end, each person accepted the cards life dealt them and made the best of it, even experiencing happiness and peace they never thought possible. Australian Moriarty ( What Alice Forgot, 2011, etc.) has managed to combine an infectiously lighthearted romance about a Sydney hypnotherapist with a potentially upsetting examination of a stalker’s interior life. Ellen is a little disturbed - yet also curious. Who is this woman, and what would drive her to this obsessive behaviour? In fact, Ellen almost thinks she'd quite like to meet her. Moriarty knows and writes women like nobody else. I think that is the biggest reason why I am so drawn to her books - I am able to identify with her characters (some more some less, but still each and every one of them). Her characters think exact thoughts that fly through my head, they do things that I've done or at least thought of doing - sometimes I have to stop and think " hey, is this character - me?".

Tamara Lovatt Smith's narration was excellent! She somehow walked the fine line between making Saskia likable and just short of manic. She really captured all of the characters well--so hard to do, especially in a book with many characters of different ages.

Supurb in technique... All of her novels set themselves extremely difficult tasks...The novel blends elements of crime, horror and love story..." Sunday Age Moriarty does a great job of creating believable characters, struggling with things that we have all experienced. Insecurities. Loss. Heartbreak.

I decided to read this book as I loved the author's other novel, What Alice Forgot. I preferred the other book, but this one was OK. Maybe it's the age thing, maybe since I'm getting older I like to read about women who are older and to see how they navigate their life.

A witty modern love story in the age of cohabitation, blended families, and second chances, this is a compassionate, absorbing tale. Moriarty has crafted an incredibly likable heroine in Ellen, the hypnotherapist who can solve her clients’ problems but can’t seem to keep her own life from spiraling into soap opera. Readers who enjoy Jennifer Close and Marian Keyes will adore Moriarty’s wit and warmth.”— Booklist (starred review) This book was a shaky 3.5 Star read for me and because it felt rushed and not enough time was spent resolving all the issues with any sense of growth or deeper understanding on the part of the characters, I rounded it down to 3 Stars. The premise was good and could have been very interesting. As it was, the hypnotherapy aspect was, indeed, very interesting. Even there, however, we got into ethical issues with bad choices and I was wondering how that could possibly be charming or even acceptable. Graham has been the driving force behind the project. She brought the book to Mandeville and ABC Studios after meeting with several producers. The pitch was then honed at the studio and sold to ABC in October. Initially, I thought The Hypnotist’s Love Story was going to be a simple contemporary love story but I was surprised that this book offered something a little different. Yes it is about relationships and love – in a number of different forms, but it is also a story of obsession and more importantly, the fixation on the glory days of the past.

Four men who meet as college roommates move to New York and spend the next three decades gaining renown in their professions—as an architect, painter, actor and lawyer—and struggling with demons in their intertwined personal lives.I really enjoyed this book; I thought it was well written and the characters were developed thoroughly, which is a mean feat for fiction writers in my opinion. There was also a 'food for thought' aspect to this book, it got me thinking about the human psyche and the art of hypnotherapy and how we as a species are so open to suggestion. Liane Moriarty’s piece is a mainstream fiction novel that dabbles in the genres of romance, drama, comedy, and even intrigue. The dynamic between the successful hypnotherapist, her new boyfriend, and his obsessive stalker is a fresh take on the often tiresome love triangle plot, breathing new creative life into the concept. Moriarty’s writing is intelligent and imaginative. She sprinkles in enough details to paint a picturesque vision of her characters and setting without bogging down the pace of the story. Wech serves as co-executive producer on the final season of the CW’s Jane the Virgin. She recently worked in the same capacity on Starand Rizzoli & Isles.Wech is repped by Verve . Anyway, if you were to read the blurb you would think this might be a scandalous thriller of a novel but it’s actually a lovely, funny and warm story about love (romantic and familial) and growth. I was pleasantly surprised! The hypnotherapy practice Ellen runs was such an interesting aspect of the story. There were some controversial moments, and I some thought provoking scenes, which would make for some lively discussion, but overall, this is really a rather curious love story, with each character taking monumental steps toward maturity and stability, and closure.
