About this deal

To return your product, you should mail your product to: 4F 405, Building F, No.2 Shangxue Science and Technology North, Bantian Street, Longgang Dist, ShenZhen, 518129 Guangdong, China The jump from Topping D50 to D50S seems like a massive one: better SNR, better cross-talk numbers, dual DAC configuration and the best Bluetooth receiver with widest codec support is the cherry on top.

Streaming simple 16 bit FLAC files from Tidal Hi-Fi it sounded basically the same as wired, blindfolded I would not feel a difference. There was just a faint difference with 96 kHz and 192 kHz files, I felt it sounding smoother somehow on Bluetooth and losing just a bit in terms of dynamics and impact. However, again it sounded clear, expanded, alive, I liked its wireless performance. You can connect your phone, pad, or laptop to D50s by Bluetooth and connect output of D50s to other device, then D50s will served as a Bluetooth receiver. They will and do scare the technophobes amongst us and many other ordinary hi-fi fans out there. They scare me, let me tell you! Bluetooth: On or Off. If you don’t plan on using its Bluetooth receiver then I recommend turning it off so the case would be cooler. Once you engage it search for it with your smart device, connect to it and stream some music wirelessly, it’s that simple

I’m sure, if I persisted over the weeks and months, I’d eventually find the people I needed to talk to but time defeated me and I felt that my priority here was to let as many owners and prospective owners of the D50s DAC know the technical issues before the story itself grew stale and more people bought this seemingly faulty design. Some readers then stated that the DAC chip itself uses a filter as part of its inherent build. As if that’s an excuse. As if that makes everything ok then. The Topping D50s is the direct evolution of the D50, a proven DAC that is particularly appreciated by many customers and audiophiles. While this new model is largely based on the design and architecture of its little brother, the main evolution is in connectivity since the D50s now offers Bluetooth support. The device can now also be controlled via remote control and its audio performance has been revised upwards. By the way, the (or one of the) Topping design engineers is a contributor to the Audio Science Review forum if the discussion of the D50s needs to be progressed. Bluetooth is handled by the best received chip, combined with a detachable antenna D50S should cover a big open area or even an apartment pretty easily. D50s supports all major Bluetooth codecs, including the best ones as aptX-HD and LDAC, plus it supports Bluetooth 5.0 so the receiving quality should be top notch. So I changed the cable again to a third reference example, Cable No.3. I played my selected CDs again and had another listen. No, I’m not talking about filtering that’s integrated within the inherent DAC chip design here, I’m talking about user-selectable filters which you’re unable to switch off on this unit. I dwell upon this because I’ve reviewed plenty of DACs which don’t even have such user selectable features in the first place. None at all. I’ve also reviewed DACs and Network Hubs in which such “filters” can be disabled. Which is how it should be. A50S as its predecessor is a simple and straightforward device, it can work as a single ended or balanced headphone amplifier or as a single ended preamplifier, alas without a remote so I don’t expect it to be used that often in a proper loudspeaker setup, maybe with some powered loudspeakers in front of your PC.

D50s has auto on/off function. D50s will turn on/off automatically according to the input signal is valid or not, this function can be turned off in the menu. All the components of the D50s are integrated in a beautiful and robust Aluminium case, CNC machined in a single metal part. While this case offers a sober and modern aesthetic, it also has very good mechanical properties and greatly limits the impact of interference on the D50s circuits. The vocal was both emotional from the D50s but also brimming with detail while treble, via cymbal hits were more lively and organic in their approach. The Soncoz could be a little barren by comparison. A touch lifeless when sitting alongside the D50s. A50S wasn’t slowing down any headphones I’ve tried with it, on the contrary it was flooring the gas pedal, increasing the pace, rhythm and timing of most headphones. If your headphones do not require too much more power to be moved, then A50S will be proving a faster pace and a decent punch and slam into your eardrums. It certainly didn’t have any issues with Kennerton Wodan on the SE output and it was snappy and engaging with Hifiman Arya on its balanced 4.4mm output. I don’t have the older Topping A50 with me anymore, but I strongly believe the newest A50S is considerably better in here, as it sounded engaging not only with dynamic headphones, but with planar-magnetic ones as well.Does the error work itself out after several hours of constant use? Possibly At a very rough case, 24 hours of constant use in my case. I then swopped around the filters in the DAC itself without any affect. I switched the Bluetooth on and off to see if that was causing interference but no, it wasn’t. I’ve approached the easiest chapter to write about, as in reality A50S is a very detailed and transparent sounding amplifier and it is very true to the source, slightly altering the frequency response which I’ll mention later on. It reminds me a lot about its brothers like A90 and L30 and I strongly believe that A50S performs pretty much the same. At full power, A50S has a THD (Total Harmonic Distortion) of 0.0007%, meaning that no matter how hard you try, you will be hearing the distortion of your headphone drivers and maybe of your DAC, but definitely not of the A50S. It doesn’t add anything in here, it’s a wire with gain amplifier that just disappears from your acoustic chain. Smallest nuances and micro-details have nowhere to hide, A50S will easily show them to you with a nicer pair of headphones. I’m personally extremely happy that we approached times like these, experiencing high-end sonics at a price that anyone could afford. It is a good feeling knowing that you aren’t limited by your amplifier or DAC, but only by your headphones.
