stars. Wow, I'm really not sure how to rate this book. I think it was pretty poorly-paced with weak characters, but I also liked some of the exciting twists and turns Lu took.

a b Rambraut, Dag (November 18, 2007). "Interview with George R.R. Martin". SFFWorld.com . Retrieved July 10, 2016.George RR Martin's Wild Cards: what is it, when will we see it on TV and will it be like Game of Thrones?". The Daily Telegraph. August 9, 2016 . Retrieved August 9, 2016. Wild Card was everything I love in a sports romance; angsty, steamy, and a hero with a heart of gold and a dirty mouth. I devoured this book in one sitting and desperately waiting for more in this series. I loved the step sister's redemption and can't wait to see how her story plays out. Talk about your HOOK LINE AND SINKER at the end there. Dang. Vaughn, Carrie (December 21, 2016). "The Thing About Growing Up in Jokertown". Tor Books . Retrieved January 31, 2017. The second thing to know: the books move along roughly in real time, and since the series debuted in the 1980s, it is in that decade that the chronology gets very dense with incident. But from 1946 to 1985 or so, in-universe, things aren’t too complicated. Only one or two stories tend to be set in any given year, and so even when a new book comes out like 28: Joker Moon, with stories taking place at different points along the WC timeline, it’s easy enough to slot material in, so long as it’s set pre-1980s.

DID ANYONE WHO HAD EVER SO MUCH AS PEER REVIEWED AN ESSAY IN HIGH SCHOOL COME WITHIN ONE HUNDRED YARDS OF THIS BOOK. Of course, that said, I’m still a fanboy always trying to get clues as to what I can look forward to. What we know so far about the next book, solicited for a July, 2021 release: It’s titled Joker Moon, and will be a standalone anthology, not part of a multi-book cycle. If we’re to believe some of the sly references made by the authors near the start of Vol. 28: Three Kings, the title is not any kind of metaphor; this upcoming book is quite literally about jokers on the moon. Will it be jokers that readers are already familiar with, or a cast of brand-new original characters? At this point, that’s still anybody’s guess. However, what I’ve learned from decades of Wild Cards fandom is to trust that the ever-growing consortium of authors will point us toward the people and places that are important at any given moment…acting as tour guides within the unique, four-dimensional fictional reality they’ve crafted. A joker is someone whose body was twisted by the virus. Joker mutations can often be painful, and are generally considered unsightly. That said, occasionally a joker “deformity” is beautiful or somehow physically impressive.

What I liked about it most was that it wasn't exactly your typical sports romance. There was a bit of suspense and mystery, a dash of angst, and a romance so good that I was immediately hooked.

Here’s an example of the type of internal-monologue justification Emi tries to give us for this relationship. “‘He’s done terrible things. And yet I can still sense your connection to him.’ I realize with a start that it’s because Sasuke was never old enough to understand what love really means. [...] how complicated love actually is.” Now correct me if I’m wrong but I didn’t think one of love’s complications was large-scale murder and moral ignorance no longer being so much as a turnoff!!! I had never heard that one before!!! At the beginning of the book, I wasn’t sure where the story was going. Once I got to the grit of the story, I was hooked. I could not put it down as I was unraveling the mystery behind the Devils Baseball Team. The story is sizzling hot with chemistry and mystery.

Ugh. Okay, picture me sighing in a long-suffering way here. Guys, I can’t just open this review up with a dad joke. Ignore the fact that I just did that, because I can’t do it. Abraham, Daniel; Martin, George R. R. (2011). George RR Martin's Wild Cards: The Hard Call. ISBN 978-1606901588. It’s also just...mushy. Like when Hideo’s advisor (the one whose response to his partial responsibility for thousands of deaths was a shrug) tells him, “For a girl that you claim you don’t care about, that little wild card sure has a grip on you.” And we all say, wow, title! And then we continue, This book is very bad and this scene could not be more contrived or clichéd or cheesy or more C-words (lol) if it were literally titled Twilight But If Twilight Stole The Overarching Concept Of Ready Player One And Mangled It Unbearably. That moment hurt, I swear! Was it stereotypical? Yes, it was! But nothing hits the feels as much as an admission like that. I felt sorry for those two and it made me sad that they loved each other but couldn’t be together because of the different paths they chose. Still, I really liked how Marie Lu resolved the entire Neuro Link thing and I’m glad that Hideo didn’t get off that easily. I mean he killed Taylor and he abused his power so it was good that there were some consequences for him. Plus I could live with the fact that Emika became the CEO of Henka Games and recruited him for her team. This way they actually got a chance to work things out and to have a relationship which was a nice change and very realistic. As we all know usually Marie Lu’s love stories don’t end that well. *lol* Vaughn, Carrie (October 15, 2014). "Nuestra Señora de la Esperanza". Tor Books . Retrieved July 10, 2016.

This is an excellent book for those new to the tarot. It goes through each card one by one, offering interpretations and questions to ask yourself to help unravel the meanings of each card. It is very detailed and written in easy to read language - it is not heavy or dry like some tarot books, nor is it heavy on mysticism and esoteric details. This makes it a very accessible and enjoyable book. It is a modern take on the tarot and I think that more experienced tarot readers could find something new in this book. Discover the tarot with Wild Card , a friendly, funny and straightforward guide to the seventy-eight cards, their stories and meanings. The “Wilds Cards” books were first released beginning in 1987, with over 40 authors having contributed to the series in that time. To date, over two dozen books in the series have been published. The most recent entry in the series, “Knaves Over Queens,” was released earlier in 2019. The original idea behind the books came from Martin’s experience as a gamemaster in the roleplaying game “Superworld.” I was so pleased to receive a proof copy of this book from Pan Macmillan for a couple of reasons; the first was that I was revisiting tarot and needed a good book to help me with that, and the second was that I just loved the cover! Let me preface by saying the great moments of Wildcard were GREAT. The scenes depicting games of Warcross were FLAWLESSLY executed in terms of pace, structure, and choreography. There were absolutely scenes that reminded me why I fell in love with the story of Warcross in the first place.
