About this deal

Asbestos was made illegal at the turn of the millennium, so it has not been used since. The material was used widely throughout the 20th century, all the way through to the 1970s - a time when many UK homes were built. This was followed in 1999 by the complete banning of the manufacture and supply of all asbestos products in the UK. How to tell if Artex has asbestos Our Asbestos Testing Kits are super easy to use. They are Safe, Fast& Affordable and are used by our Asbestos Surveyors. For instance, in the event that you wish to simply change the appearance of your wall or ceiling, if the Artex is in good condition and you don’t plan to sand, grind or chip the material beforehand, one solution might be to just plaster over the textured coating.

We'd always recommend using an asbestos removal company to remove any artex in your home. An asbestos removal company should seal off the areas to prevent the spread of asbestos fibres during the removal process. The material will then be scraped off the ceiling using X-Tex or similar product (alternatively it may be that removing the whole ceiling is the best option - especially if refurbishment works and being carried out). Once the textured coating has been safely removed a contractor can then re-plaster the ceiling. The short answer is no; asbestos-free Artex was made available in the 1970s, although it is impossible to ascertain for sure, without appropriate Artex asbestos testing, whether any given Artex does or doesn’t contain asbestos. Complete removal: Not an easy solution, this method involves completely removing the Artex and original plasterboard. Most testing of Artex for asbestos ‘events’ would generally form part of an ‘ asbestos survey’ on a property. Autumn Statement: State pension confirmed to rise by 8.5% from April 2024 – while some benefits will go up by 6.7%

If the home was built after the year 2000, the Artex shouldn’t contain any asbestos. Other Manufacturers of Wall and Ceiling Coatings

From 90s it was soft and creamy looking as asbestos was taken out about the same time the glues changed with cold water mixes. Really creamy to look at. Easy to scratch. Asbestos artex was way harder According to the HSE, removal of artex does not require a license [1]. However removal of a large area may require notification to the health & safety executive (NNLW).Artex ceilings completed before 1985 will almost certainly contain asbestos and those added between 1985 and 2000 may still do so.
