About this deal

For a wood-burning stove, the BioLite also has an impressive boil time at a little over 4.5 minutes. Liquid fuel stoves work well in below-freezing conditions and their fuel ( white gas) is cheaper than canister stove fuel. Some liquid fuel stoves can be used with different fuel types (like kerosene and unleaded auto fuel), which makes them a good fit for international trips where isobutane canisters and white gas will be harder to find. if you’re planning to make big group meals in large pots (like scouts or guide services), a liquid fuel stove could be a better fit because they have stable bases and more cost effective fuel. Also, be careful when using alcohol stoves because their fuel burns clean blue and can be very hard to see. Always make sure your stove has fully burned out before handling it or attempting to re-fuel. Never use an alcohol stove in a fire ban area. A small amount of spilled fuel can easily ignite dry brush. These stoves connect to refillable fuel bottles. They are generally filled with white gas, but you can also use other fuels, including kerosene and gasoline. This is ideal if traveling overseas. This stove type can be slightly more complicated to use (in other words, it requires maintenance), but it performs well in cold conditions. Note: The above numbers are intended to be illustrative. I chose 25 g per day because 25 is easy to work with when you have a four day trip and canisters are between 100 g and 110 g in capacity. They arereasonable numbers, but they are not not actual observations. See Calculating the Fuel Needed for a Trip for how to calculate gas consumption for a tripand for how I got the quantity 25 g.

Alcohol stoves are very light and simple. In the past they were the dominant choice for thru-hikers because of their weight, affordability, and readily available fuel in small towns. That’s not so much the case anymore. Over the past few years canister stoves have become much more common among thru-hikers because of their convenience, speed, weight, and safety. Also, it’s getting much easier to find isobutane canister fuel in small trail towns. What's an upright canister stove? Please see my recent blog post: What is a Remote Canister Stove?which describes the two major types of canister gas stoves (upright and remote) and lists the advantages and disadvantages of each. It's worth knowing the difference.

About Me

Unless you are looking at a more top-of-the-line option and cost is no issue, the BRS 3000T is really impossible to beat for the money. And if you specifically want an ultralight isobutane canister stove, the BRS-3000T is impossible to beat at any price. The serrated pot supports of the BRS-3000T are designed to prevent your cookware from slipping, but you should always ensure that your cookware is properly balanced on the stove too to increase its stability. Safety

Integrated System: State-of-the-art stove and high-efficiency cookware are combined into a compact, self-contained and easy-to-use system A good practice to get into when getting a new campstove is to set it up in your kitchen and cook on it for a few days using different pots and pans until you get a feel for what works best. This way you can be certain that your expectation will match reality when you are out there in the wild for the first time with the new stove. Do you need a windscreen for the BRS 3000T stove? That said, "good" and "perfect" are not one in the same. The Stealth ignition is the best in the business (nobody else really comes close), but even the best ignition is subject to breakage or failure. Always carry a second (or third) source of ignition such as a lighter, matches, or fire steel. But if you simply want to have the lightest stove possible or are just looking for the lightest possible way to heat water, you have to take into account the fuel canister. The silver strip of metal in the center of the burner head is the spark point of the Amicus' excellent Stealth piezoelectric ignition.

Price/Quality Ratio

In conclusion, as I reflect on the Soto Amicus, I find that there isn't much that I dislike about it except that perhaps it could be a bit lighter. It's a nice stove that's head and shoulders above the other stoves in its class. This same logic applies to frying pans and you may be able to get by with a pan slightly larger than the 5 3/4 inch TOAKS frying pan mentioned above, but don’t push this too much. So yes, the BRS is an ultralight canister stove with the nearest competitor, the OLICAMP Ion Micro Titanium Stove, being nearly double the weight! Note: In addition to this review, I have two preliminary posts on the Soto Amicus that contain additional information and photographs:
