About this deal

The way I wanted to approach this beauty was from our lifestyle. Ben and I are empty-nesters. A lot of our cooking is just for the two of us or small dinner parties. We no longer do corporate entertaining nor do we have the huge Thanksgiving gatherings of years ago where we would deep-fry, yes, the old fashioned way, three or four turkeys for 30+ guests. So I wanted to see if this gizmo would be the real deal for our small gather of four of us for dinner. Yes, the Big Easy is a lot of fun and offers plenty of flexibility compared to a regular BBQ. It does take a bit of practice to get your head around cooking on the Char-Broil Big Easy; for starters, this is absolutely not a slow cooker. But it’s also not nearly as slow as your regular fan oven so you’ll need to adjust your timing expectations compared to roasting indoors. We’d recommend spending an hour or two on YouTube where you’ll find some great recipes and advice from Big Easy converts. You can throw some woodchips into the pull-out smoker box to create a rustic smoked aroma that infuses into foods. Infrared cooking system kept our food juicy:The main feature of this all-in-one grill is its infrared heating system. Your food is heated via the inner wall which radiates natural infrared heat. We found that the infrared system keeps the meat juicy and succulent. While this big easy®charbroil is not a ‘grill’ in the traditional sense with charcoal, gas or live fire, it is what I think one of the ‘best grills’ out there for cooking outdoors. If you’re doing small lean veggies, like carrots, bundle together with cooking twine and cook with the meat. Don’t cut veggies into chunks/bite size pieces because they’ll slip through the basket. I sliced zucchini lengthwise in halves, left a peeled sweet onion whole, and used small 3-4” size corn on the cob pieces. Here are some of my suggestions that can make your first experience even more productive based upon what I’ve learned. I’m sure as I do more recipes, I’ll have more ideas! Cook vegetables that require more time, like potatoes with your meat. I sliced my potatoes in halves. Overall, the Char-Broil Big Easy looks like a serious piece of kit – well-built and substantial – but there are a few less robust elements that let it down a touch. For example, the grease tray was quite clunky to slide in and out and the smoker box didn’t latch on terribly smoothly. The two control switches also felt loose and plastic-y. In my opinion, wobbliness at these touchpoints can make the entire product feel cheaply made, even if that’s not the case.

Throughout the cooking process, the fryer was quiet and contained, without any visible flames or smoke. This fryer would be safe and easy to use even in a small outdoor area. Not to mention, it's an incredible way to make your turkey outdoors and free up precious oven space in your kitchen. Given that not everyone is a grill-master or has experience at/equipment for smoking meats, and traditional oil-filled turkey fryers can (understandably) be quite intimidating, I'd say this oil-less fryer could be just the right option for many home cooks who are preparing their family's Thanksgiving bird.

Good grilling space:We were able to grill over 25lbs of meat on the Big Easy, it was surprisingly had a lot of space and nothing felt cramped about it.Cook times vary depending on outdoor weather conditions and what size bird or cut of meat you’re cooking. Additionally, if the turkey isn’t thawed completely it will have a huge effect on cook time. It’s best for the meat to be at room temperature when placed in the cooker. We started out with regular grilling on the infrared grill. Results were evenly cooked and delicious. The results were consistent, not matter where on the grille food items were cooked. Cooking a stuffed turkey in the infrared fryer is not recommended, as it takes too long to heat the middle to the recommended safe temperature of 165 degrees. Great that I didn’t need a water pan:Due to the infrared heating technology, there is no need for a water pan. This means less clean-up and maintenance required. For an easier cleanup line the bottom of the cooking chamber with foil. Less clean-up and maintenance meant I had more time to enjoy meals with my family at end of a cook. You can either cold smoke (lower temperatures), hot smoke (high temperatures) and smoke roast. Smoke roasting is essentially barbequing. We poured a little more marinade into the included flavor infuser stand, then set it inside the wire basket and lowered it down into the fryer. From there, we added the mesh lid to the top and set a timer, then waited to catch a whiff of the delicious smells.

On the plus side, I did admire the handy hanging spots around the Big Easy, which ensured all the BBQ tools and accessories were kept on board and close to hand. It also comes with a handy thermometer probe, plus clips for hanging ribs inside. And there’s no denying the materials used to make the Big Easy are top class. We’re talking a cast iron exterior, porcelain coated grill, and decent-grade stainless steel inside. Using the Char-Broil Big Easy Almost like magic, you put your meat (or whatever you’re cooking—vegetables, pizza) in the basket. Turn the Big Easy on. Put the mesh lid on top. Then you walk away and do your thing. Mingle with your company, do a load or two of laundry, watch an episode of The Voice. You get the idea! You don’t need to worry about burning, overcooking, or having to turn and attend to what’s in that basket. The next step for me was to ‘season’ this good-looking the big easy®charbroil pot! It was simple, much like using a new cast iron skillet for the first time. Within about an hour, my the big easy®charbroil was hooked up to the 20-pound propane tank, was ready and rarin’ to go! Please note that BBQ's may arrive on a pallet due to the weight and size. Insurance restrictions mean the delivery driver will not be able to carry the barbecue up or down steps, through a property, wheel the pallet across a gravel driveway or up particularly steep driveways. Unfortunately, the delivery company we use are also unable to remove items from the pallet or take the pallet away with them.
