About this deal

If the side walls are significantly out of square you will need to scribe in the first row and last row. In this case, you should also do this after the main area has been laid. Chipboard is available in a variety of grades and densities to meet the needs of different applications. Lower densities are relatively soft and pliable, while higher densities are more rigid and suitable for heavy-duty applications. So make sure you store the boards in the room they will be fitted in for a minimum of 48 hours beforehand. This will reduce the risk of warping and shrinkage occurring when the floor has been laid.

I`m at the stage of laying the P5 T&G floorboards & as the title suggests I would like to avoid using glue on the tongues or joists but obviously we don't want a squeaky floor. I wouldn't be at all surprised if access under the floor is required at some point in the future for some reason, perhaps to get to the cables or pipes. The plumbing has been pressure tested and we've had an electrician lay all the cables but even so, in my mind, it doesn't make sense to permanently fix the floor down, just in case.... Before starting to lay the chipboard flooring on old joists, clean up the top surfaces by removing old screws and nails. It’s important to make sure the boards can sit flat on the top of the joists As you lay boards, make a note of the position of any pipes and cable running under the floor. This will help to make sure you don’t accidentally fix into them and will also let future owners know their location. Chipboard is a wooden board product that is manufactured from wood chips and particles that are glued together using adhesive at high pressure. Chipboard is used in a wide range of applications including flooring, doors, work surfaces, low-cost furniture and more. It is available in normal density, medium density and high density. Suitable for interior and exterior use, once applied D4 Chipboard Flooring Glue produces a foaming action causing the adhesive to foam out of the joints creating a ridge that enhances the protection of the joint – this can be easily removed once the floor is complete leaving a rigid bond that helps prevent squeaky floorboards.

Take your carpenter’s pencil and mark the position of the joists on the walls. This will help you to align the short edge of the boards with the joists, as well as provide a marker for any chipboard screws you use.

Chipboard is popular throughout the construction industry, due to its wide range of potential applications. Chipboard flooring is one of the most popular uses of chipboard. It provides a cost-effective yet functional alternative to more expensive wooden flooring. Roofing Superstore has everything you need to lay chipboard flooring. Moisture-resistant chipboard flooring products are available from Caberfloor. They have been designed to avoid one of the main disadvantages of chipboard. Regular chipboard often absorbs water, which causes swelling and damage. When P5 moisture-resistant chipboard is exposed to intermittent rain or water, the chipboard will retain the majority of its original strength and structure. Moisture-resistant chipboards are typically green to indicate their moisture-resistant characteristics. It is important to note that moisture-resistant chipboard is not waterproof, but it is possible to take extra steps to waterproof your chipboard if required. Different grades available Before laying chipboard flooring, it’s important that the boards are conditioned to the environment so that any shrinkage or swelling occurs before they are installed. The joists are max 400mm centres. I have Spax Wiros 4.6 x 60mm screws which are supposed to be excellent at preventing squeaks. We'll probably go for engineered wood on top.Suitable for interior and exterior use, once applied D4 Chipboard Flooring Glue produces a foaming action causing the adhesive to foam out of the joints creating a ridge that enhances the protection of the joint – this can be easily removed once the floor is complete leaving a rigid bond that helps prevent squeaky floor boards. Once this is finished, add a bead of adhesive to the tongue and groove joint on top of the screw. Push the adjacent panels together using the tongue and groove connection. D4 tells you that this product has the highest water resistant rating of its class and is suitable for interior and exterior use. PU stands for polyurethane, a type of adhesive which can be formulated to provide a permanent, long term, high performance rigid bond. To scribe in the boards, lay the board to be cut directly over the next row. Using a 590mm (600mm less 10mm expansion gap) batten with a pencil held against the end, run this along the wall carefully maintaining it at right angles. This will produce a pencil line along with the board accurately replicating the profile of the wall. Unless the line is straight, you will need to use a jigsaw to cut the board along this profile.
