About this deal

The time for Julius Caesar to indulge in treacherous political battles has come. His great courage to face slave rebellion, love for a beautiful older woman and the sword of his loyal friend, Marcus Brutus has strengthened him. Once his rank is promoted, he is able to do what no other leaders of his era did. The historical fiction author is known for his Emperor series as well as his Conqueror series. He also wrote The Dangerous Book for Boys with Hal Iggulden, his brother, which was adapted into a 2018 Prime Original television series. He also became the first person to reach the top of the non-fiction and the fiction charts in the United Kingdom at the same time. The battle of Plataeae is the ‘piece the resistance’ of the novel. My favourite character is Aristides and I loved to experience the battle from his perspective. I also enjoyed the ending, it offers already some closure. There is a new generation coming up for the next book(s). The characterization of Pericles is promising. His first book was the first of the Emperor five-part series titled The Gates of Rome. It is based on Julius Caesar’s life from childhood to adulthood, betrayal, and death. Spitfire Productions bought the film option for the series. The fifth book in the series was called Emperor: The Blood of Gods. Themistocles stands as the battle-scarred leader of Athens. Yet he is no nobleman. The elite distrust him.

The armies of Rome are forced to fight against each other lead by two greatest generals the empire has ever had. Julius will be closing on to his destiny which will be determined by two things; his best friend Marcus Brutus and Cleopatra, an Egyptian queen who will bear his son… The Blood of Gods This is the last book in this series. Here, Julius Caesar has been assassinated and a bloody revenge from a mourning nation is bound to be executed. He was killed by one of his most trusted allies. Currently, the self-appointed Liberatores run for refuge in the senate neglecting the power of Caesar’s adopted son, Octavian.

But those conspiring against him cannot argue with his victories on the battlefield. Or the vast Persian army that is coming . . . He spent seven years teaching English and served as the Head of English at St. Gregory’s RC High School. He says that he has a lot of respect for those who teach but can’t find it personally within himself to miss all of the paperwork and more. He does say that he misses being in the smokers’ room and the camaraderie and talking to his peers. Through the perspectives of different characters, primarily Themistocles and Xanthippus, Mr Iggulden takes us into the battles. The battle at Plataea captured and held my attention: we alternate between Aristides and Mardonius, from one side to the other, as the advantage shifts between the opposing armies. And after the battle? Mr Iggulden takes us further.

This is the second of Conn Iggulden’s novels which focuses on the Greco-Persian Wars. The story begins with the Persian King touring the captured city of Athens before it is set ablaze by his troops – an effective opening scene. The reader is then thrust into the midst of the Battle of Salamis – an abrupt and unsettling experience, for one who had not read the first book. TAKE THEM ON A TRIP THIS CHRISTMAS TO VISIT ANCIENT ATHENS AND JOIN PERICLES IN A BATTL FOR SURVIVAL A Persian king stands at last on Greek soil. His Immortals have come to raze the cities of the west. The Athenians are hopelessly outnumbered. The gods are silent. All they have is the shield line. Xanthippus takes a breath. If they cannot stand, all Greece will fall.Iggulden draws the Greek world convincingly and he is strongest writing battle scenes' THE TIMES on the Golden Age series

stars. Protector starts where The Gates of Athens ends. The Athenians have evacuated to Salamis and are watching their city being torched by Persian troops. Offshore, the sea battle rages, the Greeks greatly outnumbered by the Persian fleet. How can the Athenians possibly survive this onslaught? Xerxes, Themistocles, Xanthippus, Aristides, Pausanias … names I remember from studying ancient Greek history last century. Names that Mr Iggulden brings to life in this novel, the second in his Athenian series. While I have not yet read the first book in this series (I missed it, somehow) it is possible to read this as a standalone. Conn Iggulden is no stranger to me. Many years ago I read the books on Rome, and then the books about Genghis Khan. The author knows history and writes well. I will continue to read his books until there are no more. The sights, sounds and smells of Athens bring history to life with gripping brilliance' DAILY MIRROR Ik vond het ook een fijn einde en ben benieuwd naar de nieuwe generatie die aan het woord zal komen in het volgende deel.

The key events this books covers are the battles of Marathon and Thermopylae, but the majority of the book is given over to events in between where the politics and life of Athens seem like the author's main interest. That’s just one section, though, so don’t worry, there’s lots of fighting and killing to whet your thirst for violence! The sea battles at the start are very well described as are the fights we see on land later on. There’s a duel near the end which I really enjoyed as it ends a little differently than I expected but all the fight scenes are visceral and exciting.Thermistocles is going to have to fight and lead his troops to battle so that they can fight off the invaders. Meanwhile, he’s dealing with allies that hate him. But he’s got to ignore that and do what he can to defend his city. But even during times of peace, the threat of Sparta - Athens's legendary rival - looms large on the horizon. When a sudden catastrophe brings Sparta to its knees, Pericles sees a golden opportunity to forever shift the balance of power in his city's favour. Protector is the second novel in the Athenian series by Conn Iggulden. This book focuses on two huge battles and one warrior who lives without fear. A gripping read from the master historical storyteller. This swords-and-sandals epic brings the clash of empires between Greece and Persia to life' DAILY EXPRESS
